I’ll occasionally waste time at work watching these sorts of videos. I’m wondering if any of you have some favorite channels you’d like to recommend. I’ve seen a fair few, but I’m sure there are other channels out there that have slipped through the cracks.

A couple of my favorites:

1. My Self Reliance (The Gold Standard imho): I started watching his videos back in like 2018 or so, and caught up to him live around 2020, and just got distracted, and never picked it back up. So I still have about 5 years worth of videos to dive back into.

2. The Outsider started out a long time ago with a father and son building a cabin together. I love this channel. He does a great job filming and editing his episodes. Perfect location, and he has a killer bombardier snowcat lol. The final cabin is a pretty remarkable build. He’s currently focusing on a sauna cabin build, but he only really posts about once a month these days, and they’re pretty short episodes.

I’ve currently been watching Cabin River Outdoors , another Canadian setting. Tbh this guy kind of gets on my nerves because of the decisions he makes, but it’s still pretty entertaining. I’ve watched other popular channels like Bush Radical, and a few others.

So, what are some of your favorite channels that you’d recommend?

I’m late to all these shows. Just started watching Maine Cabin Masters this year. Also Log Cabin Build and Life Below Zero iirc.

I’ve been watching Wild Homestead. City boy who decided to go off the grid. I’m sure it’s highly edited but he keeps it interesting

Is that the Canadian guy that was a tv host in China? I think I’ve come across him before. I’ll check these channels out thanks.

There are some European guys that have good channels, not purely log cabins, lots of stone mixed in.

Lesnoy is one.

Luxon bushcraft is the other.

Holdfast Alaska. A young couple and their daughter, who have experience homesteading in Maine and coastal Alaska, moved to a cabin in interior eastern Alaska in fall 2024. They post well edited videos about their lives fishing, hunting, and trapping, plus repairing and building things, and tending to goats, dogs, chickens, and (soon) pack horses.

The husband works his arse off. He has repaired an old barn, built a fish wheel, and he is now building a new and bigger cabin on their land. He’s no expert builder, but he isn’t afraid to tackle anything, and they often follow viewer suggestions for better materials and techniques.

They were approached by a reality show producer, but (thank goodness) they turned it down.

Traplines and inlines. Young Canadian kid who started building one on his own over a year ago. His work ethic is crazy and it's impressive to watch him learn everything on his own

I've been subscribed to all of those for years. Here are a couple you might like.

Martijn Doolaard - very well-done editing. He's building/remodeling stone cabins high in the mountains.

Northmen - watch the "The Birth of a Wooden House" videos. They have a ton of videos about traditional log home building. I also really like their "Grandfather" videos.

Others are Penniac Wilderness, Smokey Mountain Outpost, The Maine Woods, 50 acres and a Cabin.

Jay Legere

The Maine Woods

Kyles Cabin

I've watched Sean James for years. His new setup is bordering on ridiculous now. Preferred his original cabin before his arse neighbor drove him away.

Jay Legere is different. Started with a canvas tent setup and has branched out. His yurt build with YurtsCanada is amazing. He always has interesting content.

Kyle's Cabin is a no bs homesteading family in Minnesota. Guy works fast and gets it done.

Bushradical is an old staple, along with his wife, A Girl in the Woods. Others to check out are Alaskan Cabin Adventures, An Alaska Homestead & Gridlessness. There's no shortage of good content out there.

Something a little more regular is Hometown Acres, Dig Drive DIY, Everything Elliot and Spicer Designs. Just good people and their families getting shite done.

I spent a lot of my early mornings drinking coffee and watching Erik Grankvist build a log cabin in the Swedish wilderness.
