and had a 17 year old son who was a good DB/FB type player, where would you prefer for him to go to high school for his last 2 years?
1.) West Monroe. Very stable program, great chance of winning, experiencing success and being seen by Div. 1-A schools, but not a "guarantee" of a lot of playing time.
2.) West Ouachita. Would undoubtably be a starter from the get go, lots of playing time, would be seen in games against Ruston, Bastrop, etc. but less chance of the atmosphere of predominant program "success", e.g. given expectations of playoff chances...
I'll hang up and listen.

My wife went to WM and her brother went to WO and played football there. He went to WM as a frosh and my other bro-in-law went to WM. So, my opinion would be to look at the school and how he'll fit in more than football. WO is definitely more country, but a decent school. I honestly believe that regardless of the school, if your son has the talent, college coaches will find him. It helps when you have support from the HS coaching staff too, but you can seek out opportunities for your son also....don't just depend on the coaches.
I've been to games at both schools and the atmosphere at WM is head and shoulders above WO...but football isn't everything...well at WM it is.

I would send some tapes to a few colleges and ask a few coaches which route would benefit your son best.

West Ouachita has great facilites and a tremendous coaching staff just not enough athletes. They run the fullback dive on almost every play so he would certainly get the carries. They are always around 5 or 6 wins and make the playoffs. Good school.
However nothing like a friday night in rebel stadium if the natives are into it.
I have been lucky enough to see alot of both schools during the past few seasons.
Both good in their own ways.

Is the current staff stable, and due to stay pretty much intact for the next 2 years??

how tall is the kid, weight?

He's played mostly DB in the past two years, but has carried the ball on and off out of the backfield as well, mostly short yardage/goal line type situations.

Not my son. He's the son of a co-worker who may be moving that way....

LSUmomma,
This is not likely to be a popular observation in some quarters, but IMO West Monroe is an extraordinarily insular, racist community.
As far as football is concerned, your son would be well coached there, but there are better environments in which to raise a family.

I hear your concerns, however:
It's not my son, like I said it's a co worker at the hospital who is thinking she'll end up working at Glenwood, and that's why they are concentrating west of the Ouachita. She knew I'd gone to NLU, and was just asking what I knew about the area.
I just told her I'd put out some inquiries about coaches/support staff/ school environment for her and don't think I'll give her too much other "guidance" on the social aspects right now. I am hoping they'll take the time to tour the schools and talk to the staff there, but wanted to offer some more objective viewpoints if possible.
Thanks.

I was born and raised in Oak Grove that's country but they always have a nice team that goes deep in the playoffs,But would like to get him to a 3A,4A,5A school to be seen in NELA the school to be seen is WM they are the first team to come the mouth of mag.s about football in Louisiana but I also went to Ouachita in the 10th Grade they are a very stable school lots of diversty in the school but if you want to be seen any big school in Ouachita/West Ouachita pairish are nice football teams.

Well, IMO you are an extraordinary idiot.
What's your "proof"?
As to the original question: If the kid wants to play, West Ouachita. If he wants to get seen by college coaches, West Monroe.
However, it was mentioned that he will play Neville, Bastrop, etc at West Ouachita so he will get some exposure.

As she tells it, this is the true conflict. They feel sure that he is good enough to come in and be a quick difference maker at a smaller school like WO, where there are fewer players. He's a good player, quick kid, and quite strong they say-- but they are just concerned with him coming in on his jr. year, it would take more time for him to prove himself and work up the depth chart over kids that have been in the WM system already....
