How is this even a thing?

Does it only apply to college coaches or something? I don't recall hearing this kind of thing happening for negotiation purposes in any other areas of sports at all. At least not anywhere near this level.

Does the agent say "look at all the excitement behind this hire" and that's what sells the AD? I get that that could be used as a variable, but for any AD, that has to be an incredibly tiny variable...and it sure AF wasn't used for Saban or Miles. Maybe O, but even that is doubtful, because so many hated the move.

Well, i don't know how it all works. I just know that it sucks for all teams involved. Especially the team/teams that are rejected. I just hope LSU has a serious backup plan, but probably not.

As an AD, IMO, you have to remember throughout the process who you represent and what your university brings to the table and that is leverage, especially in LSU's situation. They have a very good brand and a lot of resources to go along with being the only flagship university in the state with a plethora of talent each year. So, LSU has a lot to offer a coach that aspires a championship and that's bargaining power.

Because sleaze ball Jimmy Sexton is one of the biggest douches around and happens to be one of only a handful of agents that has turn all of college football into a shite show. frick him.

Whoever posted that Sexton leaked the Ole Miss ultimatum- this theory makes perfect sense to me. He is milking this for all it is worth to get the best deal for Lane

I think the circus has nothing to do with the process. LSU decided Kelly wasn’t cutting it. Now have an interim coach. I’m sure they are speaking to several candidates. Completely normal process. Unlikely a coach will be confirmed/hired until after the season is over or a playoff run is over. Now that we have a transfer portal, hitting the recruiting trail is largely negated for the most part.

The circus on the message boards is just that… a circus of rumors and innuendos. Sure some people are hearing things but the process is the process. Even a child like Kiffin recognizes abandoning a team going to the playoffs is a reputational killer, he loves attention but not that kind. He would be a pariah.

LSU is doing what they need to do. No one is dropping the ball, Rumors there is no back up plan is plain horseshite. Truth is Kiffin may not even be plan A.

That’s evil and how you burn bridges with a lot of people

I think Sexton is probably more professional than we give him credit for
