Fellow Tiger Fans!!
I am doing some demographic research for a possible media event regarding LSU football in 2009.
I need to know who the general public thinks is/was the best to every play football at LSU?

Please give your list and your reasons why.

Thanks!

There have been numerous threads about this. I'd say Tommy Casanova. As far as reasons, you just had to see him play to know why.

Billy Cannon is the easy answer, although Kevin Faulk has to be up there. Cecil Collins could have been the best had he not been an idiot.

he wasn't the best on the field player,BUT he was still a GREAT player..but add on everything else he has done for LSU and in the community, and Jerry Stovall has a very impressive resume

all american
2nd overall pick in the draft
SHOULD have won the heisman
3 time pro bowler
took over as coach for LSU before he was ready
former walter camp coach of the year

his losses to the wave will haunt him forever, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better all around tiger

the fact that cannon has his name on tiger stadium and stovall doesn't is truly a shame

Tommy Casanova was the best all around Tiger I ever saw. He could have played almost any position.

In addition to everything you said, Stovall could have walked on water and not won the Heisman that year. The writers were in love with Terry Baker who got cut by the Rams and Stovall went on to make All Pro several times. He was in the 8th grade when I graduated high school and the 8th grade team probably could have beaten our school team that year.

The names I've always heard have been Cannon and Casanova. Didn't really get to see either one, but that's what the old timers say.

Best I probably saw in person was K. Faulk, just due to all the yards and points. I think he's only behind H. Walker in total yards gained in the SEC.

(Did McFadden ever pass Faulk?)

I think you have to mention Josh Reed. His time at LSU was critical, i think that he was a big piece of getting LSU over the hump in the early 2000's. He is a phenominal athlete who switched from RB to WR late in his freshman year and won the Biletnikoff award his JR season. It was awesome to watch this guy play at LSU.

From what I've seen, I'm taking Kevin Faulk. He was the go-to guy in a time where we had 3 featured back. School's all time leader in rushing yards. Just an awesome player...
