Verizon expected to layoff between 15,000-30,000 employees starting next week. This is a shockingly large number given that their total headcount sits right at 100,000.

Best of luck to all those employees. Not a great economy to be looking for work. Is that retail or home office?
Also, why do we have Billy Bob Thornton for Verizon and Luke Wilson for AT&T trying to out country each other in commercials?

Layoffs this year are hitting some absurd numbers. Seems inevitable we are heading towards a recession, considering inflation and job losses.
Stock market is further disconnected from the actual economy.
Feel bad for people

I feel like the big phone companies also have a lot more competition now. I left Verizon for mint a couple years ago because it was far cheaper.

Have worked for VZ in a Wireline (good bit of difference between wireline vs wireless) B2B sales role for 11 years
All of group amd colleagues are very nervous
Supposedly biggest RIF in company history
Will see

Billy Bob is on T-Mo commercials
TMo is doing the country western bit because the big knock on them has been that their coverage area is not good in sparsely populated areas.

Verizon is laying off that many people because they can hire Contractors direct to do a better job for less money, plus not have to pay benefits.
I know one of those Contractors they are hiring.

The claim from Verizon is that it's due to acquisitions and now a lot of positions are duplicated across their organization

Correct….lot if not all of the corporate stores will eventually turn to franchise
Silver lining is that some of the rif store employees will get rehired by the franchise store owners

Agree and VZ has taken a costly approach to B2B sales amd chickens are coming home to roost
For instance they have two separate sales teams Wireless and Wireline for most enterprise customers.
Raising Canes for instances has Wireless rep and wireline …insane

You can add another 1,400 to Kroger. They announced they’ll be discontinuing service to Florida and OKC yesterday. Notified their Florida employees that virtually none will be retained after the New Year.

Not sure what happened to Verizon, but they went from being the premium provider to absolute CRAP.
Can’t even keep a call on I-10 in NOLA or the Causeway, let alone in the boonies….
Contract on “new improved” I-Phone has a year to go then I’m DONE.
