Sure wish we could do the same here in Jax. Our Dem Mayor answer to everything is increase property taxes. In the last 5 years they have gone up like 57% . I'm all for having nice things but not like this.

Dude, jax's city council is 14 of 19 one party, and it ain't Dan's ex wife's team. Imagine being the 74% super majority and blaming the other party. They can override anything back of the news van Donna vetoed.

We voted taxes down pretty handily in March so the politicians wait for a LSU home game and run it again and surprise surprise it passes with votes to spare.

What does any of this mean?

You're not from the 904 but it means it's silly to blame a mayor who has only been in office 2.5 years for 5 years of property tax increases, especially when 74% of the city council, who approved these increases, are not her party. With only 26% support, they can't get shite done without 5 of the 14 republicans signing on. It also references she's a whore, who cheated on her husband, who was the sports guy on their channel... with the weather man, in a news van, and moderately adjacent to a river.

I keep hearing this complaint from Jax residents. But council just passed a millage rate reduction and Save Our Homes caps property assessment increases to 3% per year. Millage rate is nearly flat over 5 years. The increased tax collections come from non homestead properties, changed owners, new construction etc. Yet, people quote that 57% increased collections as if their individual bill went up 57%.

Oh the renewals will be back on the ballot soon.

But this does show people don’t like the cit/parish form of government anymore. It doesn’t work now.

Politicians, it’s time to get rid of it.

People don’t want Parish wide taxes to go to benefit certain cities. A huge conflict between all the cities/rural areas.

The local mayors don’t want to get rid of it. Makes one wonder why.

None of the mayors before them wanted to deconsolidate, either. But I’m sure whoever you vote for next will know something they didn’t

Well, in your opinion, why do they support it?

I think they believe they get value from it. Not only do they reap the efficiency benefits of not having to duplicate the entire government structure, but they also get to continue using it as a wedge issue anytime their constituents have something to complain about. It’s the best of both worlds for them.

K.

If making BR worse includes diverging from the city/parish model of municipal government then sign me up.

If the asshats in local government can’t see that people dealing with inflation don’t want more taxes then I don’t know how to help them remove their heads out of their asses.

The THRIVE plan was as disingenuous as it gets. Trust the process was the message. The people replied with change the process. Welcome to suffrage.

Everybody knew that the first mayor post-St George would have a hell of a time figuring out how to balance the books. Cut the fat - especially from the criminal enterprise atop Council On Aging - and learn to live within your means. Also do an audit of where all the money has gone over the last 2 decades. The mayor's office has been rife with fraud for God knows how long. Hold people accountable. Don't just divert funds.

I guess a tiny victory is okay. What about the 10.5% sales tax because the parish can’t seem to manage itself with anything less than 5.5%. We have some irresponsible fricktards in charge of this entire state’s financial standing.

If trimming “the fat” out of the Council on Aging is a benefit of this vote - WINNER!

A Democrat operation with unlimited funds and NO oversight. What could go wrong.

Nothing changed with the CoA. They still have their existing 2.25 mills dedication for another 2ish years. I imagine they will put forward multiple propositions between now and expiry, and the elderly will turn out in droves to vote in favor. If you didn’t notice, the CoA prop was the closest to passing.
