He said he didn't want to die from a grabber on the sideline like his dad.
I've never heard that he actually had health problems, otherwise I doubt he would still be doing the XFL/UFL thing, or coaching a bowl for OU after Riley left. I think he was just burned out with the stress of full-time CFB.

He said his Dad died early from working too much and he had his own health problems creeping up on him.
