Gerry DiNardo coached his last game at LSU on this night in 1999

Lost at home to Houston, 20-7. After much pleading for another year he was dismissed a day later. DiNardo declined LSU's offer to coach the season finale vs Arkansas on Thanksgiving Friday.

Didn't last but he lit a spark.

I listened to that game in a parked car for three hours.
Can’t remember why, but I remember where.

Replaced by Hal Hunter. Best winning percentage in LSU history as a head coach.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Booty started. After three possessions accomplishing nothing Hunter pulled him. Rohan helped blow out a pretty good Arkansas team, 35-10.

Only game my dad and I didn’t go because that year was so bad and didn’t even try to give our tickets away. Didn’t watch, listen, or keep up with the score. Hell didn’t know we lost till the next morning.

Davey and Fair Park’s own Reggie Robinson both had great days. Reggie went 5 for 154 and two long td receptions.

I was there in the south end zone. Robinson caught a couple tds. Rohan ripped the hogs up. I think there were maybe 20 people in our whole section

Went to the Arkansas game the next week. First time we ever had Canes.

1999 was a frustrating season. That Houston game was the worst LSU played the whole season, and was their 8th straight loss-- an all-time record for any LSU team.
What was so bad that year was there were three games LSU should have won outright-- at Georgia a winning two point conversion attempt was BATTED AWAY! at the last second, a Miss. St. RB was stopped short of the goalline on a fourth down play, but officials called it a TD anyway, and two weeks later Josh Booty was stopped in midair a couple of inches away from the goalline on what would have been a last play winning TD.

Bob McConnell might have been the worst offensive coordinator in LSU history…. Until this year.
Total offense
1999 - 97th
2025 - 104th
Before someone says Jake Peetz, we were 80th that year I believe.

bob was terrible. glorified WR coach bumped up after coach watts left.
zero creativity. kentucky players after that game in lexington said they knew exactly what plays we were running in each formation. we scored 5 points that game. team still fought hard. we had lots of o line injuries that year and still came close to beating UGA and bama down to last plays of the game.

Hire Hal Hunter! We all yelled from our seats.
Gerry couldn’t sustain it but he got us going.

If gerrry DiNardo and Les Miles could have switched spots…Gerry would be a hall of fame coach and would have a statue. He was ahead of his time

Gerry drank the Lou Tepper koolaid and it did him in

Amen brother. I’ve waited 25 years to see this quote. Gerry got it going and we owe him for the Saban era. He showed what could be.
