So an inexperienced OC with maybe 2 years of solo play calling? Remember last year Chip Kelly was there as OC also.

Aside from recruiting WRs, what makes him standout as the guy to be the head coach at LSU having no head coaching experience?

He works for a head coach that actually runs the offense and still had to get a co-OC last year.

Their offense is pretty mid for how much talent they have on offense.

I really don't get the obsession here. He's been at one school and really hasn't even called plays that much. He's slightly more experienced than Kelvin Sheppard, and people get all up in arms about that, and they rightfully should. Neither one of them has enough experience in a major coaching role to be considered, in my opinion. If you're going the coordinator route, and there isn't a single thing wrong with that, maybe get one that has sustained success, actually calling plays and running an offense or defense for multiple seasons. You're really flirting with potential disaster with someone like Hartline who really hasn't even called plays that much.

Additionally, he's an Ohio State lifer, having played and coached there. What do you think happens if he is successful and Ohio State opens up in 3 or 4 years for whatever reason? He's gone....That's under the crazy scenario that he actually does have success, which is a long shot beyond long shots.

We need to find the next Dan Lanning imo, go young

I think the most likely ones of that crop are Brian Hartline, but he's probably going to Penn St, and Glenn Schumann UGA D coord

and Kelvin Sheppard and Joe Brady of course

I like him as an OC but hard to gauge what he would be like as a Head Coach and hard to know if he would want to be a HC in the SEC. Hes in a good spot and will likely set himself up for a HC job in the Big Ten in the next few years.

Why would Georgia hire Kirby with no HC experience? Why would Ohio state hire Ryan Day with no HC experience? Why would Oregon hire Dan Lanning with no HC experience? Certainly didn’t hurt any of those schools, those are also all easily top 10 programs. Hiring the right coordinator to be your HC can easily be the correct move

You just have to be thorough and do your homework. I’d be ok with it, but many people would not be. It’s taking a chance on an unproven coach. One advantage is paying much less at least at first. LSU would have to be sold on one coach as a really good up and comer.
