quote:

Attorneys for the archdiocese said that 157 parishes, charities and other entities affiliated with the local Roman Catholic church will file for Chapter 11 beginning on Wednesday.

quote:

In return, the parishes and charities will be responsible for contributing a combined $60 million to the archdiocese's proposed $230 million settlement, which was approved by hundreds of clergy sex abuse survivors last month.

It's not clear how much individual parishes or organizations will be required to pay.

quote:

Locally, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and its attorneys will not say how much they plan to seek from each of the 157 additional debtors to meet the $60 million obligation.

quote:

It isn't clear whether wealthier parishes will be asked to contribute proportionally more than those that don't have the same means.

"We are not able to disclose the specific contributions by parish or agency," McDonald's statement said.

I wouldn’t give a penny to a Catholic Church. The betrayal is off the charts.

As a direct causation, I agree. But a profession that enforces celibacy both attracts and creates pedophiles.

then what happened with Boy Scouts?

I don’t think the priesthood creates pedophiles - that vocation attracts them

The Catholic Church probably has the full $230 million.

This is just a way to get parishioners to tithe more.

Catholic priests used to be able to marry. The church changed that when too many $$ were going to widows.

Solve one problem, get another.

In the end some abused guy or girl is going to walk home with a check for a few dollars and a certificate for free counseling, but the bankruptcy attorneys and plaintiff’s attorneys will get nearly half of the bankruptcy settlement.

This is correct. The catholic church is a fricking disgrace. I'm so happy to read all of this. If there is a hell, they will burn in it. I am referring to those who did this and covered it up, not the congregation that had nothing to do with it.

Gayle can't fire Willie and take on more coach salaries as long as she's gotta pay for the church's diddlers.

This was the ultimate betrayal. Covering it up.

If they didn’t cover it up and then asked for money to pay settlements, I would be far more inclined to donate.

Where did the coverups stop? Did the Popes at the times know? I find it hard to believe they didn’t.
