Privatize ATC (and most everything else)

Makes no sense to have the country’s air traffic held hostage by lawmakers in Washington every few years.

How about getting new lawmakers?

How about airlines paying for their controllers, terminals, and everything else associated with air travel .

Seconded.
As long as it is a 100% clean sweep.

Reagan brought in military air traffic controllers when he broke the union.

Controller's are a Federal function. Airlines pay out of the arse for terminals, really out of the arse for gate leases and ramp space, not to mention landing and takeoff spots. Multiply that by the number of airport's served plus fee's and taxes
You privatize ATC and the ability of Joe Blow to afford a seat exponentially rises.

This could be a hard sell to the ATC crowd. They get nice checks (6 digit mid career) and pensions right now. Their pension after 25 years can be $50,000 to $70,000 for life.

Putting the airlines in charge of the ATC system would be like putting Pfizer and other drug companies in charge of the Food and Drug Administration.
You cannot have profit margins and stockholders' interests paramount in a safety-first endeavor.
The government has done a terrible job managing new equipment, staffing levels, etc., but if they were also trying to make a lot of money, it would be even worse.

FAA ATCS here. As was said earlier the gov't pension is probably the last remaining good perk of the job. Pay has constantly lagged behind inflation and the union has blown several opportunities to advance pay/benefits since 2020. We are still under the same contract from 2016 and will be till 2029.
They just need to pass legislation that pays us through government shutdowns. Between the 6 day weeks, mandatory OT, staffing issues (all because several administrations have failed to staff properly) not knowing when a paycheck is coming is brutal. I know I'll get told "you'll just get backpay when its over" but bills don't stop coming. The crap that Trump came out with yesterday blasting the work force was a giant middle finger to all of us who have become nothing but pawns to both parties.
There would probably be a few perks to privitization but way more negatives. NATCA actually supported a proposal that would have privatized us a few years back but got shot down.
