While he was there, Retana’s son recorded an encounter with a man who appears to threaten the teenager. “If I catch you out here again, I’m going to punch your lights out so hard you knock yourself out,” the man is heard saying in the video. “I’m going to drown you.” Retana said she was shocked by the video.

She explained before the man made the threat, he asked if her son had a fishing license. “My son said, ‘I don’t need a fishing license. I’m 14. In the state of Texas, you don’t need one until you’re 17,” she said. Texas Parks and Wildlife law enforcement confirmed that her son was correct.

For Victoria Retana’s 14-year-old son, fishing is not just a hobby. “He lives and breathes it. It’s everything to him. So, every day he has to get his little fix of fishing. It’s like non-negotiable,” Retana said.
Sounds like a hobby
ETA: after listening, I don't think I would have posted it online or called the cops. Just beat the dude's arse

We complain that kids are inside and on devices too much, then assholes like this guy threaten a kid for enjoying one of life's greatest pleasures: fishing.

Interference with a lawful fisherman or hunter is a crime in Texas. We need to make it a class A felony with minimum jail term of 5 years to stop this bullshite

And I thought it was a typo but the idiot says it in the video

If that’s my son, I’m calling you into the street and someone’s getting beat down. Probably not me but frick it.

that guy is a dick and deserves what’s coming to him.

I guessing the kid doesn’t have a dad around. Do that to my son and one of us is getting beat up.

Those kind of people are fricking assholes. Instead of cleaning and eating the big bass I caught on lake Rosemound I put them bitches in the pond in front of my house in Green Trails.
They drained that fricker and I watched kids catching hammers in the last bit of water
I was pissed because I was missing out on all the fun

The threat was stupid, but the report doesn’t touch on if the neighborhood pond was public or if place the kid was fishing in the pond was public land or sidewalk. The state parks just answered the question about what age needs a fishing license.
That’s the thing I remember living in a neighborhood with ponds is that sometimes instead of staying right off the public sidewalk kids went onto private property including getting in the way of golfers right near the greens on gold course or onto HOA private property and not living in the the neighborhood that owned the HOA land (or not an area anyone should be regardless of living there or not). While behaving at times some kids would also act like little shits to some of the people living right there and the golfers (parents usually fixed that crap quickly).
Better ways to deal with these situations than to threaten to drown a kid, but in this case it seems like if public and kid was always exactly where he was allowed and should be an arrest or citation would have been made especially in Austin even if just a misdemeanor. It seems like they just looked at video and didn’t investigate or talk to the guy which is strange if kid was always in the right.

Name the perpetrator. That should end this. Let the public cancel him if law enforcement can’t.

Not to be the get off my lawn nostalgia guy, but if that happens to me or really anyone of my close 3-4 friends growing up and we get home and it gets back to anyone of our Dads, it was a given that dude is getting a visit and better than 50/50 it would get physical.
None of our Dads were outwardly violent or scary dudes, just a few welders, a pipe fitter a donut shop owner, and I think one sold insurance. Hell, a few of them would've likely been the one getting their arse kicked but they were making the visit regardless. It sounds trashy today, but was totally normal way of handling things back then.
