I was finally able to get my hands on the Ruger Marlin 1875 45-70. Absolute beaut of a gun. The trigger comes from the factory over 6 lbs. Has anyone put an aftermarket trigger on the gun?

I am seeing the Timney and Ranger Point Precision as the most popular, but I’m curious if anyone here has put one on.

TIA!

No but I did watch a few YouTube’s of marlin “trigger job” and smoothed and honed all the triggers on my marlins.
Didn’t put a scale on it but after the first one I did the other two cus I could tell the difference.

Unloaded, try putting forward pressure on the hammer and dry firing 100 times.

I dropped a trigger I got from Wild West Guns ("Happy Trigger"?) into a .357 1894 some years back. It was easy as pie, and I couldn't be happier with it. I never weighed it, but it seems to be in the 3 pound range.

It got rid of the Marlin 'trigger flop' too.

The kit contains the trigger assembly, an aluminum follower and a stronger extractor spring. Although, it's currently out of stock.

It’s a 45-70, a hair trigger won’t give you time to grit your teeth.

My son has a 45-70. We went to the range to site it in and shoot different reloads he had done to find which was the best mix of powder and bullet. After a mix of 15 shots, he was hurtin’. I shot 5 and said it was close enough. M’fer packs a wallop.

Not too sure I'd want a 3lb trigger on a 45-70.

Yeah, .45-70 is about the dumbest deer round out there. Alaska? I get it. Absolutely no need for it in the South. I had the H&R with the steel buttplate. Ouch

He got it for primitive and grandparents live in NM, so he is planning to elk hunt. Might give him that for graduation in May.
