Won by the democrats in both races 62-38.
For comparison - 2024 presidential race

For the record, nearly 1M more people voted for Harris (who lost) in 2024 than participated in this election.

The gop sucks at off cycle elections. More news after these messages from your local station.
Vote. But no one does, and anyone who lives in places who has these random elections should do something about it.
Louisiana is the biggest violator of this. We’re off cycle with our statewide elections, but we also put ballot initiatives and shite on random days in the spring where the only people who know it are government workers.
Travesty of democracy. And it’s intentional.

Anyone paying attention saw this coming. The incumbents were rubber stamping all rate hikes from Ga power and people were fed up. Not so much a dem win as a "anyone but the incumbent" result.
The incumbents earned this L
Just hope the newbies don't let the Ga Power lobby get to them too. Hopeful they prevent rural data centers, too.

Fitz must have been terrible

It’s almost like there are consequences when you continually screw your constituents by hiking rates every year. Makes it tough to campaign when the worst thing that change can bring is essentially the status quo.

These seats were supposed to be on the 2024 ballot but got pushed back because of a lawsuit. I can guarantee that a lot of people didn't even know that they were up for re-election, and a large percentage of the state didn't have anything else on the ballot (or very few other items) to drive turnout.
For us in unincorporated Gwinnett the ballot was the 2 PSC seats and an esplost sales tax extension.
Erick Erickson was trying to turn out the conservative vote the last couple of weeks in his radio show, but sadly PSC seats by themselves don't drive folks to the polls unless you are voting against the incumbent.

Yeah, they're about to build one of those data centers pretty close to where I am and folks around here aren't happy about it at all. I'm sure that accounted for a few votes itself

Thanks for the clarification of those that don't live in Georgia.
That's what I was thinking when I saw that dems won offices in Georgia.
Special elections are an opportunity for dems to worm their way into office without notice, because the good voters are busy with life and jobs do not pay attention at times because they are busy. Local elections are the most important and impact life every day. The doers who make this country good need to do better and pay attention to local elections.

They will end up bought off just like the incumbents
It is concerning how much things have shifted left, but it is off cycle. I do think this should be a warning flare for the right though to stop the foreign nonsense and isreal nonsense and focus America and state first

Nothing was saving the two GOP candidates that lost their PSC seats, especially after one of them (Tim Echols) was expounding the benefits of massive rate hikes.

With the PSC election, most of those individuals were pissed off at their skyrocketing power bills (rubber stamped by the GOP).

Oh I agree he can get fricked, our power bill went from like 120 or 130 to 240. All summer it rode at 420 or higher.

Agreed on overall trends, especially the VA state Congress races and PA supreme court....this PSC race isn't w good example of a shift in my opinion, but the trump admin definitely needs to look onward to America and let the foreign policy go to the back burner

Nothing is going to change though. Southern Company will buy these new commissioners as well.

I bet they knew NYC was voting for a mayor

Compare this to New Jersey - whose voters maintained the party in control that is directly responsible for their electric bills and property taxes going through the roof.
Dems will vote Dem, regardless.
GOP voters will "punish" wayward Republicans by staying home or voting anti-incumbent.

This is true.
Our hurdle in our off cycle/special election was finding out where to vote for our area- the scvotes website didn't have the info, the local news wasn't helpful and I actually ended up texting one of the candidates hoping to get some guidance.
Off cycles and special elections are pains in the arse.

This had less to done with D v R and more to do with the PSC passing energy costs to homeowners while not requiring new data centers (which use a lot of energy) to carry the costs of expanding the costs of new production.
