The case against Eli Drinkwitz

1. He'll be expensive, he already makes $9 million per year at Mizzou, do you really want to pay him $13-15 million to come to LSU? I don't think he's anything close to being worth that.
2. He's basically .630 at Mizzou. He's everything we've said about BK, he beats up on weak opponents and can't win the big game. He's 7-16 vs top 25 teams and 1-9 vs top 10 teams. His biggest win is the bowl win vs Ohio State with their 3rd string quarterback, other than that, it's probably a 2022 win over 9-4 Tennessee.
3. He doesn't manage one side of the ball and is more of a CEO head coach. He originally ran the offense but struggled and ended up hiring a playcaller whom Mizzou fans also hate. Another thing we didn't like about BK.
4. I personally don't think his personality would fit at LSU, he has kind of a dorkish, little brother vibe. Do we really want another head coach that doesn't "fit"? For $13 million, you want someone who is going to fire the fanbase up and retain our talent, I don't think Drinkwitz is capable of that.

Weren't you the guy who said don't worry about bk and his fit and we're defending him till his death?
You were also defending Sloan with everything you had.

Absolutely, so why repeat the mistake now?

He’s a weirdo.. he would be eaten alive at LSU

He’s in the perfect spot

Every coach is gonna be expensive. SW set the bar too high with the BK hire.

He paid market rate for a top coach.

Nope. 10 years was way too long. Only Dabo, Saban, Kirby and Riley made more. BK was not a top coach. SW set the bar for buffoonery at LSU with that contract.

At the time, yes BK was considered a top coach. And we were pulling him from Notre Dame, not ULL. Takes a big contract.

To a certain extent, yes. The market has changed a lot since BK was hired.
Drinkwitz will require a bigger contract than BK got though.

Absolutely not worth the $13-$15 million a year that LSU is going to have to pay for the next coach.

Lane is 73% at Ole Miss with less talent than LSU typically has. Lane is our guy.

He wasn't a top coach. Dames schedule was loaded with service academies and his record vs ranked opponents was poor. SW didn't do his homework.

Brohm only makes $6 million currently, LSU may could pull him for 9 or 9.5

He's my number 1 choice. I would be down with that. Sumrall makes 3 mil. He could be had for even less imo.
If it was Brohm and we could get him for 9 mil, I wouldn't be opposed to an incentive package.

I just think going down the Drinkwitz path puts us in some of the same situations we were in with BK.
Tethered to a huge contract, CEO type of head coach, iffy record vs good teams, and weird personality fit.
Pro is Drink probably wouldn't be lazy. Con is he only has like 3 good seasons at Mizzou. The other 3 were terrible.

Drink actually coaches though. I think he would do well at LSU. BK just didn't care. Definitely not my first choice though.

He’s not a CEO HC and Missouri is like the 11th best SEC program on paper. He has them playing consistently above their threshold as a program.

Well, he's not running their offense because he sucked at it and it nearly got him fired.
I think he's been okay at Mizzou but those have also been some weak schedules.
