The free school meal program passed a few years ago.
They are doing this now because it cost too much and they didn’t foresee a 30% increase in meals served.
Go figure that it’s never enough.

The other prop. They passed was to let the government keep 11 million in excess taxes that were collected for the free meal program.

That’s a pretty low threshold. That’s going to snare a lot of working/dual income people. $300k sounds like a lot, but most of these people have bills to pay, kids to educate and raise, etc. I’d be looking to get out of there.

This is another thing. The low income immigrant kids get free meals too.
High earners move to low income tax state, and you are right back to not being able to fund it fully.
In year one they went over $51 million and in year 2 by $56 million. And they took funds from other education programs to fund it.
Your kid can’t read and do math, but they get free breakfast. That’s all that matters.
