The way the seasons go with past head coaches.

Nick Saban wins a title and then falls into bowl after bowl game. Not bad. Then he leaves.

Les Miles, wins a title then goes 4 yrs and then to another title game, have several good seasons until he is fired. Was there the longest.

O wins a title, then drops off

Burger King wins the SEC west, has a heisman trophy winner and does okay but no championship and is dropping off.

Is the mode that the "newness" of a new HC gets alot of positivity from all directions, wins big and then there is normalcy.

I guess what im trying to say is there is no "sustained contention" i.e. maintaining the playoffs every yr in whatever format it was in the past, that Verge claims is a must.

The new HC has to sustain contention every year. There are a small group of teams who do this every year.

How does LSU maintain this?

I agree that we need sustained contention. This has been my biggest disappointment with the golden era of LSU football.

I don’t give Kelly as much credit for the SEC West title because of the way we backed into it despite losing to a bad Texas A&M football team the last regular season game when we had so much opportunity in front of us. Another example of the softness of Kelly’s teams.

Sustained excellence is really hard.

Nick was one of the few who could do it.

Les was good at it too. Just had Nick in his way.

there has to be a formula that works and it has tp start in the athletic directors office and filter down thru to the hc, assistants and players. Its not just NIL, recruiting, weights and conditioning, nutrition etc, it has to be other x factors that LSU needs to recognize and dont change the "stencil", if you will.

All contracts across all of CFB should be performance based.

Do well, you get paid handsomely.
Go full-on Brian Kelly, you get bare minimum just like the effort you put in.

Nick Saban was only here 1 season after he won the Championship. We likely would have won a Championship in 05 or 06 had he been the Coach. That roster was ready to takeoff. 07 still happens and likely do not have the drop off that took place in 08 and 09. Its the biggest what ifs but that is what has many LSU fans so enamored with the thought of getting him back even though it will never happen.
