Why does the average LSU fan care how much our coach makes?

The number of times I’ve seen people on this board complain about coaches salaries, when they have absolutely 0 part in paying it is bonkers to me. That’s the donors’ problem.
As long as you have donors willing to foot the bill, big schools will always do whatever they can to get an edge in hiring.
I don’t necessarily care about the splashiest hire, just hope we make a great hire. Geaux Tigers.

Agree. That and the “if we’re paying him $10 million a year then he better have us in the championship game” idiots.

the reality is the guaranteed money gives them incentive to choose one school over another. If the market dictates that’s what they’re worth, then sure

Just for comparison, Lincoln Riley is making like 11-12 million dollars a year. The buyout structure isn’t public but rumored to be 80-90 million in 2024 : LINK

Same people that say they’re pro free market expect a top tier coach not to try to get as much money as he can.

I’m gray headed can remember the days when you couldn’t get coverage of games unless you went to the stadium. Those days are gone. The media and public have blown this whole thing into what it is, it’s kind of crazy. I love college football, I never gave a damn what they made back then and I’m not going to start now. Earn your salaries boys.

I really dont care, its not my money.... but I do think fully guaranteed contracts make some coaches lazy and complacent. I definitely think total wins and playoff berth incentives will light a fire under some of these coaches.
