Weird blue pulsing light when catching sharks

I have been catching small sharks off the pier at Calcasieu Point boat launch.
Everytime I catch one and get it close to the dock, there will be a small pulsating blue light emit from them.
I have since seen this pulsating light in the water and can almost site cast and catch them on ladyfish chunks.
Im not going crazy, am I?

That pulsating blue light you’re seeing could be bioluminescence, and it’s not coming from the shark itself — it’s likely from bioluminescent organisms (like dinoflagellates or small jelly-like creatures) being disturbed in the water around the shark.

Could they be on the shark itself?

Sounds like they are starting to grow fricking laser beams in their foreheads.

Bioluminescence baw. Its algae and bacteria and stuff in the water the glows when violently disturbed, such as by a trashing nasty arse shark.
You can see it in a boat wake in the right conditions.

We called it “phosphorus” not sure what it really is but it’s in the water it’s nothing to do with the shark. It will be in the spray of a boat at night and is pretty cool when it’s a dark slick night just lighting up all around the boat.

Cool. These little f'rs are fun to catch but are a pain at unhooking. The picture I posted, he is hooked under the lip and I guess rolled himself up into my leader. He didn't make it

Finally, after 28 agonizing years, he gets his way.

Mainly these dumb sharks, lots of 5-6lb hard heads and an occasional ray/skate.
With my work schedule I only get to go Thursday and Friday nights 7p-11pish

But yeah, bioluminescence. I've never actually seen it though.
