Landry lies...

So is nobody going to correct the blatant lies Gov Landry told today? I mean don't get me wrong if he wants to fire the AD im all for it, but hes not the reason A&M owes a 70 mil buyout like the governor claimed. Jumbo was given that extension after Woodard left. He also saying the taxpayers are on the hook for Kellys buyout which is a lie. This is a shite show.

How is this a lie? There are 2 parties to the agreement, LSU and Kelly. Legally speaking, yes, the taxpayers through the LSU board of supervisors, are responsible for paying the buyout under the contract.
Practically, private donors will likely pay the buyout. That being said there is no legal obligation for private donors to pay the buyout.

The jimbo buyout from his original contract without the extension would be the third largest buyout of all time

This is the dumbest self inflicted wound ever. What big time coach wants to come here when the governor is spouting dumb shite about investigating agents.
You'd think a governor of a state that's in the bottom 5 in wealth, health of its residents, and public education would have better use of his time than going on nationally syndicated sports podcasts.

Landry comes across poorly and probably should keep his mouth shut, but his basic point is correct.
Woodward gave Kelly a 10-year $95 million contract, and if what is being reported is true, his tenure when south almost immediately. Kelly didn't check out like Orgeron did, he never checked in. This is about way more than wins, losses, rushing yards and 3rd down percentage.

Every cent of that buyout will be paid the boosters. Hell they already said one private donor has agreed to pay the vast majority. That has been known for days yet the Governor said today it will come from the taxpayers knowing he's being disingenuous.

You think Landry cares about actual facts? Or real mascots?
He’s doing exactly what he’s trying to do.

Please show me to the document that legally obligates the private donors to pay the buyout. I agree from a practical perspective that that is likely to be what happens, but for my pure legal perspective, the governor is correct.

Where did i say there was a legal document?

Its a lie because without the extension he was given that buyout would be 28 million dollars lower. Still a big buyout, but not 70 million. Its simple math...

Well I believe he said he gave him a 75 million dollar buyout which is true, his original contract was 10 year 75 mill, fully guaranteed.
So it’s a half truth used in his favor.

Those things kind of matter when we are talking about $50MM payment obligation.
LSU is the only party legally obligated to pay Kelly.

Please explain how I’m not accurate.

The way I see it: There is no buyout to be paid if Kelly doesn’t get fired. Kelly didn’t get fired until the buyout money was secured through private donors so Landry’s whole point is kinda moot and serves no purpose other than to cast Woodward in a bad light so he can get a new AD installed.
Woodward swung big on BK’s contract and struck out. He’s gotta own that and I’m not advocating that he should keep his job. It’s a fireable offense to botch the football hire but there’s zero reason for the governor to air all this out publicly. If Landry wants Woodward gone he could have easily gotten it done behind closed doors and everyone would have understood why it happened. Going at him during a press conference and then doing media rounds saying what LSU will or will not do regarding the next contract is just needlessly showing your cards. There is zero benefit to doing that for LSU. Best case scenario is that it’s neutral and doesn’t affect the coaching search, worst case it costs LSU the opportunity to hire a quality coach but in no scenario is what Landry is doing positively affecting the search.
