Sources: Nebraska coach Matt Rhule signed a two-year contract extension this morning, which will take him through the 2032 season. It includes a $15 million buyout this year that effectively eliminates him from any jobs in this coaching cycle.

The idea that if you open your job early it will be beneficial to getting your new coach may be wrong. Seems like it sets up your top potential candidates to be bothered by the issue for half the season, spurring them to quash the idea. Much easier for a potential new hire to make a decision within a few days of the job coming open after the season before it becomes a distracting story.

Yup. Rhule annoys me but losing him at this point would have been devastating to the program
