Anyone here use a teardrop trailer?

I wanted to know your thoughts on them. I am surprised by their cost compared to what I consider "full size" trailers. I was hoping to save some money as I only wanted something with a bed and an AC unit. Would it be best to look for someone selling one or is walking into a new one more economical in the long run? Mind you I do not have any experience with RV's or campers so the less maintenance the better

Don't think of a tear drop (or campers in general) as a $/sq ft investment like a home. That's not how they work. It's purely off of features, quality, warranty, etc.
I owned a tear drop over a full size camper because I liked towing it everywhere including up a mountain, parking it in a standard parking space, storing in a garage.
I owned a little guy 5 wide without the wet kitchen. It was a bed and AC on wheels with a tv and a dvd player. It was great. I also didn't want plumbing.
Intec is another brand that I recommend. They sell models without plumbing.
Id go secondary market again if I was in the market for this again. They're so simple that the risk of problems is very low.
I've sold mine off as I've got kids now, but I drug it from Louisiana to Arizona to Montana and all in between. It was a great unit.

Buy used. Many are selling recreational items now. Save money and if you don’t like it, sell it and not for as big of loss as new.

Check out Hiker Trailer. They have a used/for sale page on Facebook also. I’d post a pic of mine if I knew how. I have a 5x10 midrange xl. Great trailers, and all of them are custom builds. None of the mass produced rv problems.

We have Boreas XT "squaredrop" offroad camper.
Boreas
It is a 2021 and we bought it used in 2023 after tent camping for over 20yrs. As we move into our 60s - wanted to get off the ground.
We towed it behind our 2015 Wrangler Unlimited through Utah on a 6week camping trip.
No AC but we have a portable ZeroBreeze unit.
It's probably overbuilt for what we use it for but i don't worry about things breaking or shaking lose on 2-tracks or Louisiana roads.
It has no toilet but we bought a dry one.
Pros - fits in standard garage. Easy to tow. Nice in inclement weather. Wide range of campsites or just finding a parking space. Can typically be moved by hand.
Cons - need to be efficient packers. Can be "crowded" if stuck inside. Cooking in inclement weather/wind isn't fun (outdoor kitchen). Can't stand up. Storage at a premium.
Look on secondary market as another poster suggested. There are FB pages geared to them - include For Sale.
Recommend joining/reading those pages/forums of models you are interested in to see what owners think plus they likely have ones for sale.

If you are looking to get a small camper, you might as well build it yourself. LINK
Video of 2 guys making foam-wall trailers. Honestly didn't seem that hard. Just add framing support for a window unit yourself. Buy and add what you want to it, exclude what you don't want/need. These guys made trailers, but you could get the harbor freight kit trailer too.

I am not handy at all. That would be a disaster

Thought they were a cute novelty when they first became popular.
Went to a camper show to check them out.
Climbed into one to see how comfy it would have been to sleep in.
I felt like I was in a coffin.

I definitely want to get into one first. I am 6'2 so I probably need one at least 8ft

Built a squaredrop during covid from an old boat trailer I had. We have loved it. Full size bed, galley with sink and cabinets, window unit and awning. Only drawback is no bathroom and shower. We use a solar bag when no showers are available. Coleman stove, toaster oven and coffee pot for cooking. Its been about 15,000 miles so far. Few trips in the south and 2 major trips out west. 3 weeks around CO in 2023 and 4 weeks doing 9 national parks in 6 states out west in 2024. Light weight so get 15-17 mpg pulling it with chevy silverado. We have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wish I was capable of doing fhat but I just am not. I am better off with something that requires little maintenance and maybe has a warranty. I can always upgrade down the road

Look at Runaway campers out of Florida, come in different sizes, very simple, with AC

We used to camp in a cargo trailer.
Had AC, receptacles, lights, and I put some cabinets in the V Nose. Slept on really nice cots .
Put etrack on the floor and walls to strap four wheelers down and tables, cots, etc against the wall.
Kept a microwave and propane burner. Portable sink for outside. It was amazing.

Unless you're trying to pull it with a Subaru baw buy a real camper.
When it's extremely hot, cold, or raining you'll appreciate the extra room.
