When I first watched the video, I questioned why he didn't shoot from behind the counter but then when the assailant hit the floor I realized that thug would have been hidden on the other side of the counter preventing a second shot.
As is, they store clerk moved quickly around the end of the counter protected by the counter giving him time draw and shoot and then have an opportunity for multiple shots.
I'm not sure grabbing the assailant's gun was even necessary but it did give the clerk a couple of seconds as the thug was pulling back on the gun and gathering himself.
There's definitely a lot to be learned from watching such encounters.
