Lane ain’t the guy. Sorry. Everyone falling over themselves thinking he’s the savior are hunting fools gold.
1. You hated Kelly’s contract? Lane is going to demand even more money and 100 guaranteed to even sniff coming here.
2. He’s a smug arrogant arse who’s not going to respond to this fanbase.
3. He’s been shockingly mediocre as a head coach. (The biggest thing and one I can’t understand how people are glossing over)
Not counting the Raiders debacle, Lanes head coaching record is as follows:
Tenn: 7-6 (bolted after one season)
USC: 28-15 (won 10 games one time during their sanction seasons.)
FAU: 26-13
Ole Miss: 51-19.
In 13 years as a head coach he’s 4-3 in bowl games and never won a New Year’s Day bowl or old BCS bowl. This is his 14th year. He’s won 10 games only 6 times and that includes twice at FAU. In fact if you take out the FAU years Lanes record is a modest 86-40.
But yall are ready to back the Brinks truck up and pay this man ungodly money? What makes you think he’ll show any loyalty here?

So who out there is much better than him in your opinion?

No one is glossing over it. You ever consider you are the only one that thinks this, because you are wrong? lol

He had a meteoric rise because he was the playcaller for Pete Carroll at USC when they had Leinart and Bush, and one of the best offenses in CFB history.
I think he got opportunities very early on where he was in over his head and was almost flying by the seat of his pants.
He admitted that it was a mistake to leave Tennessee to go to USC. He said that he knew it felt right to stay at Tennessee and they loved it in Knoxville, but the allure of USC was too great.
He obviously had to be humbled when it comes to coaching jobs and go to the Saban rehab program, and it's worked out for him so far at Ole Miss.
He doesn't come without baggage, but the players love playing for him and it looks like they actually enjoy playing football and have fun regardless of what we may think about it.
Outside of 2 seasons, he will have had at least a 10 win season in every year that he has been there. He has gotten Ole Miss to be competitive in the toughest conference in the nation, and that is no small feat.
I would take him in a heartbeat. Will he come here? I would say probably not because he seems very happy at Oxford and it's a different era of football with NIL and the portal. I do think he will listen to what we have to offer.

None of these coaches are loyal to anything other than money and opportunity

1. With the jobs open currently, everyone is going to have to overpay for a coach this cycle. Plus if the coach wins then no one will care how much he gets paid
2. He would fit this fanbase like a glove
3. Tennessee was a rebuild and USC was on probation. Using those stops as anything other than a way to show how much he has evolved as a coach is dumb
Ole Miss won 3 SEC games in the 2 years before he got there. Taking out the covid season, his first in Oxford, he is 46 - 14. Is he perfect? Hell no, but im not sure there is a higher floor or higher ceiling that is realistically available.

I’ve gone back and forth on Kiffin’s coaching. On one hand OP is right. Kiffin’s record is good, but his resume is not the world beater everyone thinks it is. This guy has been hyped since his days at FAU.
On the other hand he is clearly a good coach, we’re seeing that at OM, but his reputation is way bigger than his resume.
I do not think LSU is an easier place to win than OM. The winningest coach in college football couldn’t do it.

This means absolutely nothing. Les Miles had quite the fricking record here, and we had to fire him because he could no longer hack it.

Wrong. They beat Penn State's ARSE in 2023 in the Peach Bowl.

Kick rocks buddy....
Kiffin is the man and actually has relationships with his players and recruits.
There is a clear reason why ole miss is in the position they are currently in.

I could not agree more.

That will apply to ANY person they hire that is worth a shite.
Yeah, the coach from some random MAC school wouldn't merit that kind of deal, but that is not the type of coach we are going after.

I actually had no issue with his contract. It's not my money and it's obvious our boosters won't allow a big buyout to hold LSU by the balls
