Does the BK firing save McMahon?

Even if they miss the tourney this year, does the amount of money being used on bk and new coach save him even after another disappointing season?

If he misses the tourney you have to get rid of him. Would be ridiculous not to make a change

Unfortunately, probably. Unless Woody is gone and the new AD comes in and makes power moves.

Idk how reliable Mike Scarborough is on tigerbaitbut he mentioned something about if McMahon is let go after this season that there were rumblings Wade would come back to LSU.
Sounds crazy but that’s what he said .

I think he would be safe regardless. Men's basketball just simply isn't a priority at LSU, and as long as the team isn't truly awful there just isn't a ton of motivation to really push for success.
But you're right in that the money aspect doesn't help. We had to give him a comparatively large and lengthy contract for him to take the job with all of the NCAA stuff swirling at the time, so that buyout is still probably larger than the decision makers are comfortable with.

LSU has been the worst program over the last three years and the ONLY SEC program not to reach the NCAA Tournament during that period. I'm not sure what your definition of "truly awful" is, but it seems like worst in the conference should be close to it.

This isn’t nearly as crazy as it sounds given the rumblings about our next president.

There was a strong push by some with influence (or at least perceived influence), perhaps even a person living in the Governor's mansion, to get Wade to LSU at the end of last season. So strong, in fact, that maybe the fact it didn't happen is part of the reason LSU is searching for a new President right now.
That said, Wade seems to be in a really good spot at NC State. It's a basketball crazy state that is going to support him and some of Wade's biggest recruiting connections were in the Virginia/Beltway area. I have my strong doubts Wade would have returned to LSU regardless. But the "shot" to make that happen was last year and even if Wade considered it, LSU's admin didn't.
The "speculation" is that LSU will name McNeese's current president as LSU's next president (that will likely happen), which would then entice Wade to come work for a friendly face. Unfortunately, I think the powers that be will be a year too late on that push.

everything else is irrelevant except one thing. if McMahon makes the tournament he stays, if not he goes.
