O certainly didn't get it all right. But he did do some things right that the Kelly wra went away from, many of them culture based, much to the detriment of the program.
Coach O had an open door for former Tigers to come in. To walk down Victory Hill with the team. It keeps a linkage, an identity and a loyalty. How many former players have you seen around under Kelly?
Say what you will about Coach O but the man values relationships with people and players. A few weeks ago I saw a tweet where he showed up to the ceremony where Patrick Queens high school named the football stadium after him. And at the time I thought to myself, I couldn't see Brian Kelly doing something like that. From an outsiders perspective, it seems he ran LSU like a multimillion dollar brand that hes the CEO. Its cold, corporate, transactional not relational.
O also had an emphasis on an identity of Louisiana. Now nobody is going to replicate a Louisiana identity like O. But there was never an connection or understanding or connection with that culture with Kelly. Again..transactional CEO.

Oeaux will always have a special place with us. IMO, he assembled one of the greatest seasons ever for any team. That season was something special.

I loved that policy, however his open door policy to former players also lead to his demise and losing the locker room after the cancerous Ryan Clark went in there spewing his racists BS.
