I actually would be ok going with a young OC or DC route that can create their own culture. Who would yall be interested in that is a current coordinator at college or nfl level

Shepherd, or Hartline would be two great picks for me. I really just want somebody who knows what it looks like to win big things and or is used to the grind and battle that it takes to win here. Ohio State may be one of the only places that is similar to the SEC.

A&M got Elko so why not

Yes. To me big time head coach is always less risky but the next best thing is a very successful coordinator at a big school. Kirby, Lanning and Kiffin are examples. Just go find someone who is a damn good coach and keep giving Thomas what he needs as GM.

Jesse Minter Ryan Grubb or Mack Leftwich

Hartline
Will be the hot name. Schumann at UGA but SFP brought up a good point that there may be a reason he was passed over so many times and Lanning was running the entire Defensive show.

Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Ohio State, and others have all done this.
LSU is definitely not above hiring an elite, younger coordinator as a HC.
You'd have to find someone who:
A) Consistently fields top 10 units for whatever side of the ball they're coaching
B) Relentless recruiter
C) Can motivate and relate well to the players.

Mack Leftwich.
He has dominated at multiple places.
Had the number 11 offense in the country with TJ FINLEY as QB

Still somewhat important but not close to what it used to be now that you can just drop a bag on a kids doorstep.

Elko was the Duke HC and had proven himself beyond that of a coordinator.

Related to Byron? If so that would be intriguing.

I can think of another Duke HC who had some success.

Manny Diaz would be an interesting play too. He's not doing half bad for Duke.
