For all the people saying Kelly won't accept a lower buyout and resign...

What happens when the donors to his NIL say "NO" and we don't get any portal transfers, our "good" players transfer for a bigger payday, and we don't have money to buy "better" coaches than what we have with Sloan, Davis, etc.?
Kelly will tell Woodward,"How am I supposed to compete with NO more NIL money?" He either resigns at that point or he takes a beating week after week until he is fired.
I think last night was the first time Kelly understood that the fans, not only don't like him, but actually "HATE" him.
I'm not saying something will happen (resign) this week, but I think it will at the end of the season unless they win out or possibly going 3 - 1.

How much of a beating would you take for millions of dollars?
Posted on 10/26/25 at 9:24 am to 0
Well how much $$ does he get from the rev share deal now?
Does he need all the money from boosters any longer, seriously asking?

This is stupid. He doesn't care if anyone hates him. He doesn't care about how much you want him gone.
His contact stipulates his buyout, and if you want him gone you will have to stick to the contract. Simple as that.
2 things that should never be brought up again, negotiated buyout/resign and Saban coming back.
It's just not happening.

A massive one but probably less if I had tons of money already.
I can’t think coaches would be chomping at the bit to take a job that would essentially make you a dead man walking though with regards to your buyout by not giving you a competitive team.
The landscape in NIL times is just so weird.

You assume that he cares what the fans think and that his ego can't handle their boos. I would let the whole state of Louisiana boo me for $10 million per year and a $50 million buyout and not lose a minute of sleep over it.

I wouldn't take any beatings for Millions of Dollars. Money is not my God.
I've been around Coaches all my life. They hate losing more than anything, even money (I'm not talking about their wives).
Kelly has been one of the most successful College Coaches. His ego will not allow him to go out having 2 or 3 losing seasons then getting fired, just so he gets more money.
Again, this is IF the big donors refuse to give to the NIL.

That's because you have no money right now. Y'all act like Kelly is hard up for money and will stay here because he will go bankrupt or starve if he doesn't. Wake up.
Also, you say you would let the whole state "boo you" and not lose any sleep. Talk is cheap.

Your scenario turns him from a villain to a martyr.

You equate resigning for 30 million instead of 50 million dollars to being a martyr?
Some of y'all act like Kelly is not going to resign because he wants to make the LSU fans suffer and wants to burn down LSU Athletics, laughing all the way to the bank like the Joker in Batman.

You do forget how much revenue comes from tickets, concessions, parking, etc.
You don’t tank seasons and expect fans to show up and spend money or donate to your cause.
You fire him now and save in the long run.

If it turns into a Mexican Standoff between BL & LSU while being at the bottom of the SEC- BK would win every time.

If he doesn’t resign and voluntarily give up $20m then out of spite LSU cuts off all his resources, yes he would instantly become a martyr. Ignoring in this stupid hypo you proposed that the LSU football program, and by default the rest of the athletic program that depends on the increased revenue the football program generates, suffers tremendously in this situation.

LSU won't cut him off, the HIGH paying donors will. Some guys are paying millions of dollars for NIL and don't get "concessions, parking, etc" revenue in return. Those are the guys that will "cut off" Kelly, not LSU.
LSU needs football, but I've been told that the only way LSU will buy him out is if the buyout is less than 30 million. That doesn't happen until two years from now if I''m not mistaken.
Now, could one of those HIGH donors decide to give LSU 25 million to get him fired? Yes, but then who would pay for a top notch coach, NIL transfers, etc.

It’s not all about that. If he agrees to a much lower buyout, he not only doesn’t have to take a beating from fans, but he doesn’t have to work year round at one of the most stressful and demanding jobs there is.
Think about it like this, would you take slightly less money, which is still substantial generational wealth, to sit on your arse? Most people would.
If I had 60 million over 6 years left on my contract, and was given the option of going home early for 30 million, I’m doing that in a heartbeat. I’m not BK, and he may not think that way, but to act like it’s crazy is just wrong.
It is totally feasible that someone take a pay cut so they can have all the free time in the world especially when we’re talking about well into the 8 figures.

EXACTLY! We all know Kelly likes his Vacations and Golfing. He's already a multi millionaire. The only thing he doesn't have is a National Championship. IN the last few weeks, he realizes he's not doing that here in the SEC. He would go back to ND for half the money (of course, they don't want him there either).

He is a-hole enough to do exactly this.
