You need someone who can at least lock down one side of the ball…

No more CEO types. Sure Kelly holds a playsheet and is involved in offense but he cant call it on his own. LSU needs a coach who is a master for one side. Big name examples so far all in top 10 include coaches who either call the plays themselves or are very involved (Lanning, Cignetti, DeBoer, Elko, Smart, Key, Lane) to name a few.

LSU isnt in a position to poach someone from that list (Well, I dont think we are) but could see LSU go hire a coordinator whether from CFB or NFL remains to be seen. Would also save some money because wouldnt have to go get 2 coordinators + a HC.

personally im not sold on lanning staying at Oregon long term. Not saying he’d 100% come here but I think he’d listen. Doubt we could buyout Kelly AND afford him tho

I don't know what you're laughing about. Elko was a good defensive coordinator and now he's proving to be a good headcoach. He's done more at A&M in 3 years than basically anyone.

Absolutely. I understood the need for a CEO type to get us out of the slums after Orgeron but things need to change this time around especially if we retain our GMs. In 2023 it was one thing to see the offense humming with a terrible defense bc the HC was an offensive mind and couldn't help fix it. But in 2025 we're now seeing that he can't step in and fix the offense when it struggles either. That can't happen. It's too hard to find 2 good coordinators. Hiring a coordinator as HC makes staffing 50% easier

Cignetti is gettable

Clark is an interesting one because he went to Vandy

Personally I think you make Joe Brady say no. Which he will, because he’s in line for a HC NFL gig.
