I'm not okay guaranteeing the next coach X mil/ur regardless of how well the team performs.

I'd be fine with a coach not afraid to prove his worth on the field to earn the max yearly pay.

No decent coach would agree to that

I agree but you will have to take a chance on an up and comer. You aren’t gonna get an established coach to agree to that

Florida hired an up and comer and where are they now?

Not sure we get a decent coach WITH a massive guaranteed contract, TBH.

I think it's worth a try on a high-potential coordinator/lower tier school coach looking to make some noise as a HC at a P4 school. Paying top dollar seems like the same level of risk.

I'm pretty sure the due diligence on Billy predicted how that gamble would turn out.

I think we could do better than that.

Maybe you misunderstood. The OP said that the next coach should be an incentive based salary, and I said I agree . However you aren’t getting a Kiffin or any other established coach unless you drop a ton of money. LSU just made a bad hire with Kelly.

Not gonna get an opinion identified, hot up and comer either. They’ll wait.

It's like people here don't understand there is a HIGH demand for good college football coaches and a VERY LOW supply.

For all of the BK salary complaints, I don't think he's even top 10 anymore.

I’m fine signing a coach to a guaranteed contract at a higher level than Kelly, it’s just a 4 year deal that can only be negotiated after year 3. There is no reason to sign 10 year deals and grant extensions and raises 2 years in.

Are people upset at the salary or at the length of the contract?

I say both upset with the contract and the length of the contract for Brian Kelly and I have to admit I was all aboard on first but not for that type of contract

Really it's the 10yr contract length. There's no urgency or pressure with that kind of time to work with.

Not much you can do about annual amount when it's the going rate.

So you’re saying you trust Fat Scott to handle another football coaching search? Because he’s got such a great track record?
