I grew up as a Vikings fan and never knew about this. Holy crap!

Great find, it was a year before I was born. I too had no idea about this story.

First I’d heard of it. I had seen the NFL Films piece years ago on the disastrous pregame and halftime entertainment at Super Bowl IV in New Orleans the following month.

The Vikings played in Super Bowl IV the same year in New Orleans and there was another balloon wreck.

I had 50 yard line seats for the SB in NO with the next balloon failure, I sat next to Billy Kilmer and several other celebrities. The Youtube video doesn't mention, but N,O. was under a tornado watch that day, but they tried to launch the balloon anyway.
