the John candy doc was a blast of nostalgia and got me wondering, was he the GOAT comedic actor (not comedian, that’s a different category)

My top 5 in no particular order:
Robin Williams
Candy
Eddie Murphy
Jim Carrey
Mike meyers

You are a fool for putting Mike Meyers in over Bill Murray

I don’t think anyone could debate Williams, Candy, Carey or Meyers. After that to me it’s a toss up between Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase.

I’d say Murray has more range than Meyers as an overall actor, but for pure comedy, I’d take Meyers.

Hmm. I’m torn. Love them both. Murray moreso as more nostalgic while MM kinda 90s cheesy but damn, so versatile.

Solid list. There will be a lot of good names thrown out there. I’ll add a few for discussion that probably wouldn’t be in top 5 but damn funny

Leslie Nielsen
Ben Stiller
Rodney Dangerfield (he may have had a lot of stinkers but his character in caddyshack might be my favorite)
Richard Pryor

What? LOVE Murray but he always plays Murray.
Meyers plays everything, literally.

The only thing of Meyers that holds up is Shrek.

Murray could have only played one singular role-groundhog day and still been on that list. Greatest comedy of all time. Add in his massive collection in addition and it’s no question.

Additionally Chris Farley and Will Farrell definitely rank above Meyers.

Right, Meyers makes characters, and that’s why I put him over Murray as a comedic actor.

My comment about range was referring to Murray’s dramatic turn in lost in translation (although yeah, he basically plays bill Murray) which he was nominated for an academy award.

He wouldn’t be in my top 5 but I love Martin Short. That little bastard just makes me laugh.
