They don't want to get in a bidding war with Florida and PSU.

Isn’t his buyout huge and FSU is kind of poor in the first place?

It’s over 60 million

the coach might be untouchable for now if only because of what the Tallahassee Democrat's Dan Rorabaugh reported is a buyout of around $59.2 million. Florida State decision makers are still reportedly considering it, however, with "momentum" building toward a change, per Pete Nakos of On3. As long has Florida State fires him without cause, Norvell is entitled to receive 85 percent of the outstanding balance on his contract. Since his deal runs through 2031, dismissing him at any point over the next few years will be expensive.

Not a great moment to enter the coaching market.

For some reason I stayed up and watched the putrid Stanford game. Norvell looked on the verge of tears a few times in that second quarter

We are all in the wrong business. Should’ve went into coaching kids games

Program is a fricking joke. We’re so dead.

This is basically the James Franklin situation. 'You better make the playoffs next year or your fired'. I wouldn't be shocked if they are starting to hit up whatever big donors/alumni to get funds for the buyout.

I would have expected that after they went 2-10 last year. I don’t understand how a university/program like FSU struggles with fan support and money. They’ve had some truly weird shite happen since 2017

It’s a huge program of course, but aren’t they less fortunate with funds than say UF or Miami?

I wouldn’t think they’d be any worse off than Miami. A school like FSU is going to have plenty of wealthy alumni and it seems like more of an overall football school than Miami, which is notorious for being fair weather about the team. It seems like the AD struggles to rally the money behind the program from the outside looking in

I believe he made wholesale changes on both sides of the ball (could be wrong though) so they may have wanted to give him a year with new staff. Plus his buyout is insane.
And I'm with you about the support. I was shocked to read about their money situation. I wonder if they are keeping him because they couldn't out bid penn st and possibly Florida.

But this is going to happen every year with the cash being spent in the sport way higher than ever before.
Texas/LSU/Clemson/USC/OU and more could all realistically be open within the next 12-18 months with expectations not meeting reality

Why is that? Is it the A.D.? President?

Franklin would eat at fsu, perfect fit for them. They shouldn't wait before some other program scoops him up

It seems Miami has done better in the NIL space than FSU, to go along with Cristobal being a better HS recruiter than Norvell. Could be that one wealthy injury lawyer down there booster fronting the tab, but I always hear their name more than FSU for the big fish in recruiting and the portal.
Looks like Alford will be gone with Norvell because that fanbase isn’t happy on X

He's got to go. Link Jarrett is not thrilled with his NIL approach in relation to the new rev sharing rules

Fla state and all of the ACC are in bad spots because they make so much less in TV deals than SEC/B10.
Add that to Fla State, which never had the richest alumni base, and they could potentially be one of the big brands that traditionally had stacked rosters simply due to recruiting location.
Also add that Norvell seems to want to build his teams almost all through the Portal every year instead of solidifying a foundation with HS recruits (which are still the bedrock of your roster) and they seem to be in deep trouble.
