But recruiting is dead as long as Kelly stays. I don’t understand why the powers that be don’t move heaven and earth to fire Kelly now.

Look at the optics to any coach you’re trying to land.

You’re willing to pay $50m to Kelly to go away after going 5-2 and ranked 19th. Your 2 losses to top 10 teams by a combined 12 points, oh he’s 34-13 overall, winning 72% of games.

Yeah it’s fine waiting for his 3rd or 4th loss. They should start discussions after 3rd loss.

LSU doesn’t have a president.
Recruiting is more about $$ and NFL exposure now more than ever.
LSU is 5-2 that still controls its playoff Destiny.

You’d be buying out his contract and the entire staff, plus funding NIL money etc etc.

It’s an unrealistic ask, although I’m all for it

You better stop being reasonable. They don’t understand reason.

I think this is overblown, there are young coaches out there that would love to come to LSU.

You have $20m+ roster in your 4th year. LSU is a home dog for the first time in a long time to someone not named Bama. It’s not about the optics, it’s about the trajectory.

I agree. Let it play out. The mistake has already been made. You wait and let the season play out. Optics do work both ways though. Think about any established offensive coordinators looking at this job. The demands are going to be off the charts. Kelly is basically desperate to save his job. The money required to rebuild this offense is going to be substantial to say the least. LSU is going to pay through the nose now or later. We put ourselves in a bad position with Kelly’s contract.

No self respecting coach watches this years film and feels bad for Kelly. It’s likely painfully obvious to anyone who coaches for a living the issues are on the sideline and in the booth, and why LSU would move on. This isn’t year two with a bunch of youth, this is his well funded and resourced vision routinely going three and out and settling for fgs.

Because… the buyout is the issue.

Stop worrying about recruits. These are professional players now. They’ll go where the money is.

thought you only drink on Saturdays. BK's seat is not even hot yet, it is getting warm and it has to be hot for another year before you talk about firing him. He is 34-13 at LSU.

And how many BIG games has he won? How many top 10 teams has he beaten? Hell, it’s been the same damn story for 4 years. He talks a mean-arse game but doesn’t deliver.

This contract is going to haunt LSU for the next few years regardless of if he is fired or not. LSU is going to have to move “heaven and earth” to rebuild this roster and coaching staff whether Kelly stays or not. It’s going to cost tens of millions to prop Kelly up or fire him.

Why would recruiting be dead? Recruits go where the money is

I get it

He’s also 34-13 at LSU.

But on top of the terrible optics I laid out. You’d owe him $51m, not counting staff buyout. Then have to pay a pretty coin for the next coach and staff. Oh and the kicker, fork up another $20m in collective to field a team that can compete.

Well what coach out there do you think LSU can afford who has won all these big games?

As long as NIL $ flow, recruiting is ok. It is a new world out there.

Did I miss him getting fired yet?

I think everyone is expecting a minimum of 2 more losses and maybe more to end 8-4 or worse.

At which point you are firing Brian Kelly for being in year 4 and taking a top job and having no 10 win regular seasons, no playoffs, only one divisional win losing record against ranked opponents and finishing out of the top 25 for the second straight season. At LSU.

He should have been desperate to save his job against Vandy. Did it look like it?

We’re stuck with Kelly until at least the end of the season next year.
