Too many coaches are being fired for this market to make of ADs to make good decisions. Teams will overpay for coaches out of fear and get mediocre results as they string through leftovers

Even if the market is smaller...the UF UAA is a joke and will frick things up.

Hanging onto a coach for too long is a recipe for disaster especially now that you are complete dependent on donor money to determine the quality of your roster

Not out of the realm of possibility that next year LSU, USC, Michigan, Clemson are open.

Maybe. I don’t think so. Even then, those are geographically disparate. Right now your looking at around 7 schools in the southeast that will be looking for new coaches at big programs

As opposed to continuing to go into further debt making bad decisions? You can get donors back when they’re excited for the program. You ain’t going to get any excitement hiring the Eastern Kansas State head coach.

while that's true, OP has a point. There's few coaches to go around and a lot of openings. So someone is going to settle for someone, that someone is going to have leverage in the contract negotiations.

This offseason will create a few more Mark Stoops level bad extensions.

Are colleges about to start attracting the best coaches with 15+ million dollar salaries?

I’m not sure what NFL guys make, but it doesn’t seem like we’re too far from a program offering whoever the best coach is $20M to run the football program and whatever else they want.

Wait till the players revolt thinking that money should be spent on them…

If you’re an NFL head coach, why the hell would you ever want to be a college head coach. It’s an infinitely tougher and more time consuming job when you factor in all the recruiting into the picture.

Also, per google:

Highest-paid NFL head coaches
Andy Reid (Kansas City Chiefs): $20 million
Sean Payton (Denver Broncos): $18 million
John Harbaugh (Baltimore Ravens): $17 million
Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers): $16 million
Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers): $16 million
Pete Carroll (Las Vegas Raiders): $15 million
Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers): $14 million

Oh shoot, yeah that makes the NFL much more attractive.

Idk why, but I thought Tomlin was leading the way at like, $11M.

That was probably 8 years ago

Nobody is ever truly happy with a coaching hire unless you get Saban. I don't think the same people crying to fire BK will be happy with anybody. If LSU hires a young gun people will not be patient enough to let it play out. It's hard to find a good coach these days with agents forcing $100M salaries.

EDIT: I look at these agents the same way I see ambulance chasing lawyers.

So, when you fire your coach that opens a 30 day window for players to transfer.

However, this means you can possibly get your new coach earlier than others and have time to retain players and recruits. And to go find new players.

If you wait until end of season you have way less time to rebuild compared to earlier new coach teams.

But it can backfire if you pick the wrong coach going early. It leaves more time for players to leave and get picked off by other schools.

There will be more firings. And it’s all due to NIL. When boosters and fans are paying for players they now have a right to complain more and louder. And can threaten to cut money off. This is a new twist to the coaching carousel.

I think USC might consider firing Riley but his buyout is massive (and private) so no one knows exact numbers. That would be a big opening out west. But with taxes and high COL they will have to pay way more than other schools.

quote:

Mark Schipper - 5th Down CFB @5thDownCFB USC should fire Lincoln Riley for trying to cancel the Notre Dame series. It’s deranged I’m assuming people w/integrity are going to prevent it from happening. I cannot believe USC would lose sight of its traditions to such an extreme, self-destructive degree

They are solid at their level, great at fundamentals.
