Industry sources confirmed that the Giants are closing in on hiring Tony Vitello, a 47-year-old Division I head coach who transformed the University of Tennessee from a bottom-feeder in the Southeastern Conference into one of the most talented programs in the country.

That's different.

I don't see his antics playing with professionals but we'll see.

Tony's strength is recruiting. That doesn't matter in MLB.

Very bizarre choice, but V must have a hell of an agent.

I wonder what the difference in pay would be.

That’s wild. Love it. Tennessee baseball and it’s arrogance deserve it.

His $3M salary at Tenn would be 13th in MLB.

This seems like an unprecedented and frankly stupid move by both parties

You’ll do the same thing A&M did.

I didn't mean we'd could pick any coach in the nation we want I'm just saying we will do fine, will either promote from within or hire a guy with connections to Vitello's staff

I can't remember if Frank is interested in being head coach or not but he seems like the first choice

ETA: Elander is who we would hire I wasn't thinking
