This year says,”no hunting allowed on south farm except lottery hunts and except open migratory game bird hunting is allowed during early teal season…yada yada (discusses duck and goose only).

Also it had in major changes “changes were made to the sherburne wma south farm hunting regulations see page 64.” (Which is all it has in the first paragraph above).

Historically you could bow hunt there outside duck season more or less - this reads like that is no longer allowed?

If so, that sucks and they should be more clear on this change.

Call the WLF office in Lafayette and speak to an agent who knows the current hunting season rules and regs

The Saturdays were lotto. Tue/Thu were show up and hope you get picked, then draw for a pond. Now it’s all lottery. Tue, Thu, Sat.

That’s the way I read and interpreted it as well. Bowhunted there a good bit, sounds like that’s all over now but never called to verify.

Man again that sucks if so. Our kids were off of school so we went ride the four wheeler yesterday. I left it hooked up and was going to go to S Farm today. Last night I read that section just to check the dates before it closes until after duck season.

Used to bow hunt out there a bunch also. I talked to agent once I read changes few months ago. He told me that it was never allowed but the wording was confusing. It used to say hunting by lottery only from Friday before youth season…. Apparently that meant that was the only hunting that could happen on south farm. I always took it as you just can’t hunt starting from that day every year. This cleared it up. I believe they knew what was going on as I’ve talked to agents out there. but in recent years, a lot more people started hunting out there and were going wherever on four wheelers. Once problems start, they are going to do something.

Sounds like he lied to you or he doesn’t know what the rules were. It was always open in October until the Friday before the first youth hunt, and then open again the day after the last waterfowl lottery hunt. That was for inside the levee system. You could hunt outside the levee system all season. I’ve killed a lot of deer out there and been stopped on my way out, and not once has a game warden said I wasn’t allowed to hunt there.
Pretty messed up they closed it now. I love how La just takes away public hunting grounds because they feel like it. They actually shut it down 2 seasons ago because of a little wash out by the culvert heading back there. Didn’t fix it until March. How convenient

Like Hebert said, he was wrong if he said that, it was very clear you could hunt there.

Yes because after duck season ended some of that was PRIME woodcock area and I've been checked there.
