They chewed up some wiring and carpet. The worst part is the smell. What can I do about the smell?

Strong bleach and water solution. You have to burn up the mice pee. The water and bleach will travel where the pee went.

Words from a Marine Mechanic who has fixed hundreds of boats with chewed wiring from mice and rats.
"DO NOT use a cover on your boat. Rodents are looking to make a home. With a cover on a boat it creates the perfect environment. Mice and rats move in and wreck shite":

If you live out in the country, I'd think about getting a pair of cats. The girl stays within say 75 yards of the house and kills any rodent or snake within that area. The boy's hunting area is much larger. He patrols my 3 shop buildings. Also my sheds i store my 5th wheel, boat, tractor, 4 wheeler and side by side. He kills probably two a week. She's a better hunter, but she stays more close to the house/front porch.
I used to have mice screwing around trying to nest in my shops and sheds. I had squirrels cause damage to vehicles 3 separate times.
No more issues at all. My cats can go in my house through a Power Pet Door to eat or chill nor get attention, but go outside to play, hunt and do their business (no litter box in the house).

I hate mice and the damage they do so, so much.
Best thing I ever did was build my shop to be tight enough to exclude the varmints.

I was finding mouse droppings around my boat trailer, got an electronic rodent repeller off Amazon and haven't seen a dropping since. I thought I was wasting my money but it seems to work, I just throw it under the cover and plug it into the receptacle with the battery charger.

I tried spraying rodent deterrent and used an electronic rodent deterrent as well and they came back. They moved from my old pontoon boat to my bass boat. May have to get another cat.

Treat your area, let it sit. Rinse it very well.
We had a little camp on an oak ridge on the edge of the GOM. When the storm surge would over run the island the rats would take refuge in 5he camp.
Piss smell was overpowering. I filled a potato pump full of bleach and water. 1:2 solution. Sprayed everything liberally and hit a second time. By killing all of the rat trail smells the rats didn’t come back.
I also popped a few from my bunk with my .22 S&W.
