During my research i found a picture that has me curious.. it appears to be under the south grandstand. Its a large sign with what appears to have a bracket panted and the only letters i can make out are "GB" and "tourna"

Anyone have any idea what this could gave been? It was there in its late life so i guess 1974-75

The pic is in the 1980 tulane yearbook.. the sign is behind a very large refreshment and 7up sign

Thanks

Did they just spell "dodgeball" incorrectly?

lets see. It could be gangbanger · gangbuster · youngberry · longbowman.
We need a list of all the words with GB next to each other. OT get on this.:)

Rugby would be another one, but in mid 70's doesn't sound right.

I saw this searching.
The Mardi Gras Tournament became a major event in the American rugby calendar, especially in the 1970s. It was held at Tulane Stadium in the 70's.

That was the old BIG BOOBS Tournament at Maison Blanche. The winner got to go out on a date with Mr. Bingle to Pontchartrain Beach.

A truely classic new orleans award right there.

If nothing else its a great example of the sort of random things that were likely in there. And from a nerdy standpoint, a great example of a painted sign with fonts..

crash1211 - Great work. The Mardi Gras Rugby Tournament was first there in 1968.

I remember there was a booster club for many years called the Tulane Green Backers Club. My Dad was a member. I wonder if the GB stood for Green Backers?
