“It’s the most humbling thing I’ve ever seen,” said Ford’s chief executive about his recent trip to China. After visiting a string of factories, Jim Farley was left astonished by the technical innovations being packed into Chinese cars – from self-driving software to facial recognition. “Their cost and the quality of their vehicles is far superior to what I see in the West,” Farley warned in July. “We are in a global competition with China, and it’s not just EVs. And if we lose this, we do not have a future at Ford.” The car industry boss is not the only Western executive to have returned shaken following a visit to the Far East. Andrew Forrest, the Australian billionaire behind mining giant Fortescue – which is investing massively in green energy – says his trips to China convinced him to abandon his company’s attempts to manufacture electric vehicle powertrains in-house. “I can take you to factories [in China] now, where you’ll basically be alongside a big conveyor and the machines come out of the floor and begin to assemble parts,” he says. “And you’re walking alongside this conveyor, and after about 800, 900 metres, a truck drives out. There are no people – everything is robotic.”

Don't worry Farley, Ford and GM will have their chance to screw the US populace even more.

That is the type of innovation that can be achieved when your investment of time and brain power is not wasted on Unity, DEI, Inclusion, Equity, and Unnecessary Green Initiatives.

Hey Ford, just give us something that gets us Point A to Point B with a reliable engine with east accessibility and repair to wear and tear parts. Save us the facial recognition self driving shite

BYD has surpassed Tesla as the worlds biggest seller of EVs.

Chinese invested heavily in EV infrastructure. A couple of years ago there were 100 or more EV companies in China, and there are about half that today.

Competition drives innovation.

I’ve riden in Chinese EVs before. As much as I wish it wasn’t true, the reality is they are well built machines for a low price point. Our American EVs ain’t got nothing on them.

Their market is global except for the USA. They sell in Australia and Mexico.

I would buy a Tesla, would not buy a BYD. There's a reason Buffet sold off his BYD.

Even if we started today and invested everything we need in EV infrastructure, we are still 30 years away from completion.

They have a really good EV infrastructure in the EU. What has that gotten them? People are doing over there, what we see people doing here...

Turning away from EV's. They do not mind non-plugin hybrids, but even VW's Cupra brand is trying hard to sell. Cupra makes the best EVs money can buy. BMW and Mercedes are close to scrapping their EVs and they just hit market.

How does this do anything but prove exactly what I said?

Well, I think Tesla competes everywhere.

They even have a plant in China. BYD doesnt compete in the US market directly, though they do make components that are incorporated in US cars, I believe.

that's not the threat to Ford.

The threat is actually vehicles like the toyota hilux.

All the regulations we have keep us from having cheap reliable vehicles like this. If a company would be allowed to make a $12,000 reliable cheap corolla sized car, or hilux type truck that was just stripped down and simple without all the bullshite we have forced on cars, that company would immediately become the dominant force in the car market.

The chinese building cars like that is not surprising. We do the same thing here, but we do it with fighter jets and bombers. It justs costs $400 mil a plane.
Same with china and cars. Their government runs everything at the detriment of their people. The average US income is 14 times greater than the average Chinese income. No one there can afford them. Although i guess they could just give them away.

There is a reason the Ford CEO is saying this. There is plenty of technology in the US, Germany, South Korea and Japan. China isn’t anymore advanced than those other countries. Does he want more tax incentives for plants in the US? More government investment here? I know China doesn’t have to worry about workers or citizens. They can think it and implement it right away.

Frankly, this is impossible.

China is like 93% Chinese. They simply do not have enough diversity to be strong.

America simply has too many black and brown people for them to compete. It's not even close.
