Or is this the only imagination Sloan has?

not cutting Sloan any slack but we don't have the cast of characters to pull this off effectively

The RPO slant has been one of our most consistently effective passing plays. They sat on it and Nuss blew the read.
If we dumped every play Nuss has blown a read on, or that Daniels busted or wouldn’t throw in 22, we would have a Service Academy playbook.

Just let 8 take more snaps.Jes been a qb his whole life he can make a quick throw now and again. Run the same plays w him keep it half the time. Success guaranteed

Actually he didnt read it at all, he guessed, he predetermined that he was going to that route. He does this often and gets away with it, when its completed its hard to recognize it.

I’m sure that happens, but RPOs are one or two reads tops. I’m sure he saw it. I honestly think it’s worse than not reading if he figured he could still zip it in there and beat that defender when he had absolutely no chance to.

All year I've said this.
Nuss is not that guy for that. He doesn't run.
Either swap him out or run his power Formation play action.
Build around what you have.
Change the personnel if need be or adapt to who you have.
This square peg round hole offense is hard to watch.

I actually think at this point hes just not good at reading it. I'm also starting to believe some of the problems are that he audibles into plays that he feels more comfortable with, rather than running the called plays way too often.

It is BKs playbook.
Sloan or any other OC will have the same plays to pick from.

That’s a 15 yard flag for not knowing the difference between an RPO and a Zone Read.

Sometimes he just gets baited easily by the defense moving and disguising. It got so bad vs UF that they took audibles away from him. We started doing check with me to the sideline in the 2nd half because they were manipulating him into audibles they wanted and moving back after he changed the play.

Yeah, alot of people think that the QB can pull the read and run, but in the RPO its hand it our throw behind the LB...BUT...In a great offense you can have elements of both the RPO and Zone Read. I believe Nuss could actually do it, but until last night he doesnt have the "will" to do it.

People keep saying this, but the facts say otherwise.
A- Kelly never ran this offense at Cincinnati or ND.
B- This is Denbrock’s leftover playbook with whatever Sloan has added. He just isn’t nearly as good calling and sequencing from it.
C- Kelly has never coached offense in his career and never called an offense full-time. He’s never had a playbook that he developed. He definitely has his preferences on offense, but he has never come up with his own scheme. It always been pieced together from his various OCs. Probably Denbrock more than any of them.
When Sloan is gone next year, this playbook is likely gone or significantly overhauled, as well.

I don’t think Nuss does a good job reading the DE on the Zone plays we do run (and we run them far less now than last season). He’s gotten positive yards the few times he pulls, but it feels like he’s guessing.
If we want him to run some to keep the D honest, it would be better using what we did last night- up the middle out of an empty set or taking yards on rollouts. He looks a lot more comfortable doing that. The Zones Reads just feel like they would be better called as straight runs to the backs.

What does his ability to run have anything to do with RPO plays?

I suspect a lot of out fans confuse Brian Kelly with Chip Kelly.

I for whichever QB gives us the best chance to win it all. With Nuss continuing to make bonehead turnovers in redzone and his inability to run the Zone Read plays in this offense, I dont think we go far, even if we do get in the playoff. He could fail, but I would like to see MVB get more playing time to see if he can add that dynamic to the offense. Last night we had more success in run game and Nuss still threw 2 horrible "points off board" picks.
