WR Depth

We're loaded at WR.
We sign big name WRs, but they don't get to make much of an impact until their Jr/Sr years (generally).
Do you think Reuben Randle makes an instant impact? or is he still a couple years away?

dunno. i say he gets on the field for 5-10 snaps a game and he is the solid #2 in 2010. we have some really good wide outs in front of him(Lafell, TT, supposedly molton) that will limit his pt in his 1st year.

Depends on how the QB position develops and if Crowton gets to open up the playbook. LaFell, Tolliver, and Randle aren't hurting for size or athleticism, that is for sure. Let'er rip.
PS I hope the pass into the flat is retired, tired of the recurring nightmares from 2008.

Lafell, Doucet, Bowe, Davis, Clayton--all these guys made impacts before their JR/SR seasons.

yes, they made impacts, but they were all waiting their turn to be "the man" in the receiving corps.
what i'm asking is if you think Randle jumps the others (the Mitchells, the Tollivers, Molton, etc), in the depth chart and makes an instant impact.

I think it is still open for RS to end up a WR also.
Getting Randle, Lafell, Tolliver, and Dickson on the field is a lot of size in the passing game
Lafell 6'3 209lbs
Tolliver 6'4 194lbs
Randle 6'3 195lbs
Dickson 6'3 246lbs

We're not exactly known for bringing Freshmen into the mix right off the bat.

Look out for Molton. Going to be a surprise this year.

My thoughts are Crowton has had to work with the strengths he has had...If JJ or Lee or Shep develops into a great throwing QB the WR's will get more chances...Ya got too go with the strength...

Guys, you all make it seem like Randle is going to be like Terrence Tolliver and not play to much his first year. They say he is as good as Julio Jones. RR has the oppurtunity to be the #2 IMO. There will be 3 WRs on the field most of the time. BL, TT, and RR will be those 3 guys.
RR as you saw in the Army game didn't do much. That is because all he ran were hitches. He still got like 75 yards and trust me, he will be doing more than that with his great hands and great speed. RR won't be on the bench this year, trust me.

How many teams can say missing out (maybe not the best choice of words) on Bell and Benton on NSD ain't no big deal.

We will have Dickson(TE) on the field with either Williams or Murphy at RB in the shotgun. It should be pretty scary even if JJ is just average.

Isn't DeAngelo Peterson supposed to surprise also?

Randle will make an immediate impact. He was arguably the No 1 player in the country. He will be our 3rd WR which is in the game most of the time. BL, TT, RR in that order sorry but Molten is not even in the top 5 on our dept chart imo.

The odds are against RR making a huge impact on next years team. People see the impact that Julio Jones had with Bama and AJ Green with GA and forget that those teams had virtually no high quality receiver to begin with. It was easy for them to give big contributions because they were the best receivers on their respective teams the minute they walked on the field.
That won't be the case for RR. Lafell and Tolliver are NFL talents and with their big experience advantage they will get most of the playmaking opportunities...as they should.
I think it will be reminiscent of when Dwayne Bowe came in as one of the top ranked receivers in the country. LSU was stacked at receiver his freshman year with Clayton, Henderson, and Skyler Green. Bowe was a great talent but he wasn't going to be better as a freshman than those guys already were.
Maybe it will be different for RR. There would seem to be a good chance to win playing time in as the number 3 receiver but its not like the guys he will be competing against are BAMA receivers or GA receivers. LSU's receivers go to the NFL!! He's gonna have to be EXTRA special just to be the number 3 guy on OUR team!

quote:He prob could jump all but Molton and Peterson (DeAngelo). I see him as being #4 by the fall, as someone else said, 5 touches a game max.

Greatest show on earth time, play 5 wr's no huddle and throw it up (not you lee) so our recievers can make a play, when the safties play deep we will introduce mr. charles scott

Well everyone seems to forget, Les generally plays by seniority. Hes gunna give guys like Tim Molton and DeAngelo Peterson a chance first before he sends Randle in. Then again, if Randle outplays them in practice, then I'm sure Les will put them ahead in the depth chart. There will be a lot of wide outs substituting each play...lots of options to go to.
