I am aware that I cannot hunt squirrels from a boat that in under power. I have been told that when I am moving in my boat, I have to have my guns in a case. I honestly have been told many conflicting things. Please clear things up. Thanks.

I'm not sure this is true, lots of hunter's hunt squirrel out of their boat in the basin. Most use a trolling motor.

I've slaughtered squirrels from a boat. It's too easy.

A motor is a motor.

Only a restriction on WMAs.

Firearms having live ammunition in the chamber and crossbows cocked in the ready position are not allowed in or on vehicles, boats under power, motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, ATCs, WMA check stations, or in camping areas on WMAs.

either is legal as long as you're not on a WMA, the trolling motor is much more effective for obvious reasons

page 25-26 is for Deer hunting, where does it prohibit it for squirrel specifically? Your clip appears to come from the racoon/opossum section. Would you mind clipping the section header as well?

Edit to add just confirmed with GW directly, as long as boat is not moving under power of the engine while your shooting it is legal in LA except where prohibited on WMAs.

In Georgia you can paddle a boat and shoot squirrels...its a blast and highly productive. Also shoot woodies and the occasional big duck and even timberdoodle. I am certain it is legal to scull a boat to shoot ducks federally so if you are moving with a paddle and no other form of power I can't imagine it being illegal anywhere.

Was on a small lake fishing last year during the youth opener. The lake is located inside a WMA and there was a father and son in their boat easing along with a trolling motor doing damage.

It was cool to see.

Page 25, at least in the online PDF, is the first page of quadrupeds and game birds.

You are correct though, I pulled that from the possum section. The squirrel section does not list boats as prohibited.

Bring a buddy to drive the boat. Launch in a Bayou. You sit in the front with your shotgun while he drives. If you don't kill at least 2 limits you doing it wrong.

I’m ignorant here, but assuming they float? You are shooting them over the water and picking them up by boat?

No. They sink. You have to shoot them over land, then get out and go get them.

Me and brothers used to get 4 limits opening morning riding the bayous and shooting squirrels. The boat driver didn't need to shoot. We'd get his limit in no time and go back that afternoon to get another one. Fun times.

Honestly in our area most of the time the squirrel is going to land in the water. Usually they float just enough to be able to scoop 'em up with a paddle or net, depending on how they've been eating I guess. Sometimes just their tail is floating and can be very hard to find.
