Trump signs order considering attack on Qatar as security threat to US

“In the event of such an attack, the United States will take all lawful and appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military, to protect US interests."
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday, wherein any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure of the State of Qatar would be considered a threat to the peace and security of the United States.
According to the order, in the event of such an attack, the United States would take all lawful and appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military measures, to protect the interests of the US and Qatar to restore peace.

IDK, just speculating but this might be a response to the Israel bombing in Doha. I’m certain the U.S. intelligence knew Israel would carry out the bombing but this reaction kind of leads me to believe they did not notify Trump.

I think the US knew it would happen and tacitly approved while publicly condemning afterwards. And now that the deed is done, we guarantee Qatar that nothing like this will occur again in the future. Win-win for all involved.

I’m sure it’s a “face-saving” measure, for outward appearances, and not intended to convey any concrete intent to effect substantial change in policy on the part of the U.S. It seems like the kind of thing said after the deed is already done, knowingly and intentionally so. I’ll allow it.

Well, going forward I’m pretty sure if Qatar is asked to hosts a meeting between warring ME countries their immediate response is going to be “frick that”.

The fact that Trump can maintain good relationships with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Israel at the same time is impressive. The man really does deserve a Nobel Prize.
