Thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss. Below are MVB's game by game rushing totals with sacks separated out. Leaving out the Florida game since he came in for an injured Shapen in the middle of that game. You can see that Van Buren had to run for his Van Life as a true freshman.

@ Texas
6 carries, 31 yards, 1 TD
6 sacks, -45 yards

@ Georgia
5 carries, 15 yards
0 sacks

vs. Texas A&M
6 carries, 20 yards
3 sacks, -21 yards

vs. Arkansas
5 carries, 13 yards, 1 TD
4 sacks, -18 yards

vs. UMass
6 carries, 33 yards, 2 TDs
3 sacks, -19 yards

@ Tennessee
4 carries, 19 yards
4 sacks, -28

vs. Missouri
2 carries, 7 yards
2 sacks, -5 yards

@ Ole Miss
5 carries, 14 yards, 1 TD
3 sacks, -23 yards

TOTAL
39 carries, 152 yards, 19 yards per game, 3.9 yards per carry, 5 TDs
25 sacks, -159 yards

It doesn't seem like he's the type of runner that's going to lead your team in rushing, but I'd love to get to see what he does when he's running because he can rather than running because he has to. His freshman year was mostly the latter.

Worth noting that Lebby's system at MooState is not built with designed QB runs. Those rushes are pretty much all scrambles. Hes not running zone read.

Its hard to determine a QBs effectiveness as a runner from stats alone mainly due to sack yardage being deducted and players/scheme around him. I think if you watch him he passes the eye test. I think he would open up our offense by pulling a few reads and being accurate on the deepball.

Wholeheartedly agree. I have a feeling some will think I'm posting this to negate MVB, but I'm actually doing the opposite. I've seen people say that he's not a good runner because his rushing total for the season is negative. I broke out his actually rushing yards from his sack yardage specifically to point out this context. It doesn't prove that he was an elite runner, but it proves he was plenty capable when choosing to run. 19 yards per game at the QB position is a totally adequate number in my opinion, especially for a true freshman on a bad team.

And factor in he has played top SEC teams last year. Even Ga on the road, so i dont think he would be in over his head.

We saw what he's capable of on the 4th down vs Southeastern; evades the untouched blitzer, gets up field and gets the first down.

It’s not even just the mobility part now. Nuss can’t even make routine throws that MVB can. He needs to start

Its nice to have someone that can move outside the pocket when needed to avoid the pressure long enough for someone to break open or to make an RPO effective.

I watched Van Buren pull the ball on a zone read multiple times last year in the red zone faking the defense out and scoring TDs. He didn't run a lot, but he can definitely run and he looked like an instinctive runner. He would definitely give us more options in the running game.

Legit question, when LSU installed it's "wildcat" package during the fall, why do you think they had Ju'Jaun Jonson running it? Wouldn't it make sense to have MVB running it?
