Calling the experts...I currently have about a 10x50 ft patch of border that is completely eaten up with aphids. It looks like old London

I try to be pretty organic but am open to any solutions including pesticides. The whole bed is full of camellias, pittosporum, and azaleas. There are two small persimmon trees but I wouldn't be expecting any fruit for at least 2-3 more years.

It seems like a big space for neem oil...any solutions that have worked for you??

In the spring/early summer, Ladybugs. Lots and lots of ladybugs. Well, the larvae of the ladybugs after the ladybugs have their sexy time.

But now... try some insecticidal soap. It MIGHT brown the edges of the azaleas... if it does after a few hours, wash it off. Or leave them be, they'll recover.

I got rid of aphids using a mineral oil based stuff from the garden store. Considered organic. Really worked on the garden.

I use Bifen for insects in the yard. What ever you decide to use read the label on the bottle. It will usually tell you how long it has to be to harvest fruit/vegetables after spraying. IIRC

I've used Bayer Tree and shrub with great success. It's a ground treatment. It does not get applied directly to the shrubs

I resorted to a root soak. Used imidacloprid. It nuked em. But it kills everything that uses the plant. It cleared up everything.

Lots and lots of ladybugs.

So it turns out, about a week after posting this, ladybugs showed up in droves. They made easy work of the bugs lol! It's amazing how quickly nature can solve a problem

I dont know if the aphids will come back but the soot is gradually disappearing. I think a big rain would help it to wash off
