I turned the movie on during the final scene. Never watched it before and don't really know the plot of the movie. But the final scene had so much potential and it was wasted with several extremely unrealistic/lame moments. There was so much drama that was wasted due to him on the mound talking about what pitch he was gonna. The whole prayer scene was pretty lame. Telling himself to block out the fans was mediocre. And then the announcers talking all about the perfect game while he was pitching...a huge no no. The catcher's and the antonist's weak acting. End rant.

That was the worthless quote I was trying to think of. Who says that, especially during the middle of a fricking perfect game.

I think if you had watched the whole movie you would have understood the whole "clear the mechanism" part more. It wasnt something he just did that once.

Also, on the part about discussing the no-no, that now happens pretty frequently, hell ESPN will run updates on their bottom line as soon as a pitcher is in the 5th inning of a perfect game.

I like the movie, and am NOT a big Costner fan. I could have done without the crying, but hey, most sports movies toe the line of chick flick anyway.

How do you know what a major leauge pitcher does while pitching a perfect game? Hell Fernando Venezuela thought that he was breathing through his eye lids.

Exactly, is was part of his routine. Just like golfers have before addressing the ball. By having the routine you can focus.

I would say you should give it another chance and watch the whole thing.
Not the best movie ever but definitely a good movie.

I just randomly started watching this movie one night, so I had really low expectations. I ended up totally digging it...good enough sports storyline to be entertaiing to guys, enough chick flick stuff to be interesting to girls. I would totally recommend this movie. It's like the anti Jerry McGuire...you know, a movie that actually had something to do with sports, and not just packaged as a sports movie to get dudes to go see it.

This is one of the best date movies ever. Exactly what was mentioned earlier, enough sports plot for the guys and enough love stuff for the girls.

But they don't say, "I'm not gonna throw the curve. It hurts my arm too much." Or if they do say that to themselves, I assume they would at least put the glove over the mouth.
