133k miles, 4 door, hard top, $15k
Any thoughts on reliability, issues, etc…?
In the market for a vehicle for my son…
Thanks in advance!

If it’s been modified any, I would have an off road mechanic look at it. Also make sure the speedometer is accurate. Some people don’t have the speedometer reset for larger tires and that can hide tens of thousands of miles depending on how long they’ve had it on bigger tires.

I’m assuming you mean odometer?
So the bigger tires make it say less miles?

my wife’s 2012 JK is at 350K and still rolling. The pentastar engine is a winner

I’m at 160K miles and running strong lifted on 35’s. If it’s has been maintained it is good to go.

Changing to larger tires makes your speedometer read slower than your actual speed, and your odometer record less mileage than actually traveled, because the tires cover more ground with each rotation.
Easier to spot by the speedometer being off

I have a 2016 JK 2 door with 77k on it. I have had zero issues. I baby it.

maybe so
this is her second JK and both have been flawless. I have a 2022 gladiator runs like a top at 90K. Either we got the only two pentastar engines that last or it’s a fine reliable power plant. I think the latter is more likely
we will be replacing her engine sooner than later (she likes the low tech model she has) but we more than got our money’s worth

Wife put 240k on her 2014 jku all original driveline. No issues out of it until it started ticking at 240k, can still run and drive. Bought a bronco a few months ago as change of pace. I’m currently at 128k and no issues on a 23 gladiator. The pentastar is a reliable engine.

It's can be a sign that a lift/adding larger tires was done cheaply. A correctly installed lift for the JK they should have updated the computer to correct the spedo and odo.
You can check it pretty easy during a test drive though. Open a GPS app like google maps and then compare your true speed on the app to the speedo. If it's off then it wasn't updated. Take the percent it is off and then multiply the current mileage and add that to the total miles on the vehicle to get closer to what the true number is.
Also anyone telling you that anything after 1997 has a lot of miles on the odo because "it was towed behind an RV" is lying. The 95 YJ was the last year of the mechanical odo.

2015 is generally considered one of the best years for the JK (if not the best). You are still going to have the problems like pretty much all jeeps like random leaks, but the biggest issue for that year was the throttle position sensor. It's easy to fox yourself by watching a youtube video, but it's not very expensive even if you get reputable mechanic to fix it if you aren't mechanically inclined.
As a previous poster mentioned, if it is modified at all and you aren't familiar with Jeeps, bring it to an legit off-road shop for an inspection. They may charge you $150, but it's well worth it if they find a major problem with parts or installation before you buy it.

The pentastar is a good engine. Stay up on oil changes and keep a close eye on coolant level. I have 112,000 on mine. I just changed the plastic thermostat housing for a leak. That’s the only repair I have had to do to it.

Not sure if you'd be interested but my sister has a 19 wrangler unlimited for sale right now with 81k for $21500. I don't have a link but its on marketplace and know it hasn't been ragged out.
