Torpedo grass in flower beds

The bane of my existence has infiltrated the flower beds and it has become a downhill battle. Is there anything to do about this except try to pull the roots and round up open areas? I clean them up and two weeks later it looks exactly like it did before. This stuff is relentless. I have had a horticulturist come out and treat the grass and it subdued it for a bit (we have centipede so I know I’m screwed from this perspective). The problem is we have dogs and small kids and I’m not crazy about them being exposed to major chemicals 4 times a year indefinitely and the dogs tracking it inside. Also, it’s not like there is an end in sight because my neighbor doesn’t treat his yard so it is a never ending battle. Is resodding to zoysia or Bermuda my only option for the long game? Setting it all ablaze? Nuclear bomb?

Put your house on the market.

I just keep doing this on repeat and try to keep it manageable.
Try to pull up as much of the horizontal roots that you can. I somehow got more than ever out last week. Not sure if it was because it was a bit wet or what. But I was able to remove a ton of the horizontal roots.

I have this awesome gardening knife thing that allows me to do that. It is infuriating how deep the rhizomes go. I actually really enjoy tending flowerbeds it’s a form of therapy for me but this is just making it miserable.

Have you considered glyphosate gel. Or shielding your other plants. It's one of the safest things you can use.

I'm currently on application two of glyphosate on my flower bed. It was completely overrun with this crap. I plan on hitting it two more times and I'll be doing a weed barrier with Brazos river rock bedding in it next year.

That damn torpedo grass always finds a way through.

Yeah, I’m not sure that will work. You might want to try metal edging that goes about a foot into the ground. That still might not work.
For the OP, try the glyphosate gel. Or glyphosate with surfactant (surfactant is a must), and use a paint brush to brush the glyphosate onto the torpedograss leaves. This will be a never ending battle that you will have to do every few weeks, but it does work.

There's a metal barrier there, and it didn't work. Lol.
The idea with the rock is to make it more aesthetically appealing and easier to apply glyphosate throughout the year. I've dealt with this crap long enough to know you don't fight it. You just make it easier to manage.

We had pavers put down and the guy said they use some woven industrial quality weed barrier. I would look into whatever that entails. From experience the torpedo makes its way through the plastic stuff.
I think I remember reading it can go as deep as 8 inches under ground. That may be incorrect but it can’t be off by far. The stuff is a menace to society.

I use a ground saw and use plastic bamboo barrier to keep more rhizomes from coming in from the turf. You have to hand weed the landscape beds to remove the rhizomes. Sometimes the rootball of plants are infested and best to discard. You may have to remove all soil from the bed, add the barrier, and start from scratch
