I think the younger generation would say the early 2000s, but TS had its reputation long before then. Were 70s or 80s actually the peak years?

Is there someone that can compare how things have changed over the decades regarding fan experience, noise, etc?

If we had won NC’s in 80’s, My Goodness TS would have been even more unreal

70’s and 80’s. Everyone was there to watch the game and cheer for the tigers not play on their phone and tell people they went to the game.

I have vivid memories as a child of a hailstorm of cups, ice, bottles of booze and anything students could throw at the male Tulane cheerleaders when they'd come waive their flag in front of the student section. I have to think it was the 1990 game that we won by a touchdown or less.

That could've been the same season I saw someone die in the stadium of either a stroke or a heart attack. It was wild, they were giving him CPR on the bench, poor guy was sprawled out, decked out in purple sweats. They took him off via stretcher but we found out he had passed.

Not that has anything to do with peak, but it was just some wild arse times in the late 80s and early 90s. The vitriol was real, we were shitty and every win was a street fight.

I would go 70's/early 80's definitely
Back then TV coverage was few and far between until TigerVision came on board

ESPN didn't start until early 80's either and it took awhile before every game was accessible on TV

Mid to late 80’s. It was a perfect storm of capacity, on field success, and fans giving a shite. Tickets were like $15, so the stadium was oacjed with salt of the earth m hard core fans.

Probably the 70s. The 1979 USC game finally placed it in the minds of the national sportswriters as a very special place.

Definitely had its moments from the late 80s to mid 2000s, though.

Two of the loudest games ever in that Old stadium were in the 70's - Notre Dame 71 and USC 79.

too young for ND 71 but to this day USC was the loudest experience ever and it was sustained loudness. I would put Fla 97 a distant second and I've pretty much been to almost all home games since the early 80's on.

Yeah, but it sure did look good full up at the Florida game.

I see a lot of old folks on their phones as well.. so it’s not like they were any different back then. They just didn’t have the option to be on their phones because it didn’t exist

I think everyone’s answer will be whatever their formative years of fan hood were. My youngest real memories began in the mid 90s so I naturally think the peak of TS was from the Bring Back the Magic years through the Saban era. To this day, I don’t think anything will ever top the 97 Florida game. But someone who grew up in a different era probably thinks otherwise

Easily the 70’s. Rabid respectful crowds who came early and stayed late for EVERY game

Agreed, no reason EVERY SEC game shouldn't be packed like that one.

Define "peak."

- How loud the stadium got?
- Most fun game experience?

Ubiquitous smartphones have only been a thing for about 20 years. And you could hardly get service in the stadium for at least the first 10 of those years. So I don’t think phones play quite the role you’re making out.

96-98 were pretty dang good! Some of the best crowds I’ve ever been a part of.
